    Where is "downtown Toronto"?

Look at an aerial photo of central Toronto. See where all those tall (20+ floors) buildings are heavily concentrated? That's downtown. Pretty simple.

City of mass construction: Toronto’s unstoppable condos show no signs of slowing down

Most of these new condos are being built on former parking lots. I don't see how a new building (with retail on the ground floor) on what used to be a parking lot can threaten to damage the city's street culture and urban fabric?

    Barrie Downtown Developments

That figure is for everything within the city limits, including big box developments and low density sprawl, the old core area of Barrie has a much higher density and is certainly much more "urban".

Boston and Toronto are not really in the same league, it's time to wake up and accept the reality that Toronto is at least a third tier global alpha city very much on par with Chicago in size and importance - yes, it's true people, little 'ol Toronto is in the big leagues now!

    Toronto/Chicago comparisons

Chicago lost over 200,000 people between the 2000 and 2010 census', so the two cities are now pretty much neck and neck population wise. Chicago is very attractive in some areas, not all - much of the South and West sides of the city are incredibly blighted and barren. The architectural...

    Toronto/Chicago comparisons

You can't compare American MSAs to Canadian CMAs - apples and oranges. A more accurate comparison between Chicago and Toronto would be the Chicago MSA vs. the combined Toronto-Hamilton-Oshawa CMAs or the Chicago CSA with the Greater Golden Horseshoe.

Lifeless Bay St and University Ave

What he ^ said, if Toronto isn't a big city, then there are only a few cities on the entire continent that would qualify as such. Amalgamation or not, Toronto is a very big city and has been for quite some time now.

In the central city, Toronto is more dense than Vancouver by a considerable margin.

Lifeless Bay St and University Ave

I walked along Bay between Dundas and Bloor today around 3pm and made a point to check out how busy it was, and there was a very decent amount of pedestrian traffic IMO - not at Yonge St. levels of course, but for a Sunday afternoon it was far from dead or deserted.

    steveve's Toronto city model

Watching this get built is more exciting than watching the progress of some certain real life towers in the city getting built!

    Earthquakes 2010 and 2011!

I live on the 8th floor of a building downtown and I didn't feel a thing?

    Exodus to the Burbs

At least they didn't move to the 905, North York is still Toronto.

    Toronto/Chicago comparisons

It seems to me that despite the relative lack of bike lanes, Toronto still has more cyclists on its streets than either Chicago or Montreal.

    Toronto/Chicago comparisons

The Toronto ridings that were won by conservatives were the victims of left-wing vote splitting, the combined votes for the liberal and NDP candidates in those ridings was far higher then the number of votes for the conservative candidate. The ridings that were won by the conservatives still...

    Toronto/Chicago comparisons

Despite the antics of the Ford nation, Toronto is still a far more liberal city than Chicago.

The top 25 walking intersections in Toronto

Bay and Dundas ahead of Yonge and Dundas? How is that possible? Bay and Dundas is like a dead zone in comparison.

Downtown Baltimore video. T.O. needs something like this.

I think it's funny how New Yorkers always say "only in New York" when they're talking about seeing something strange or unusual that I've seen in Toronto on multiple occasions.
