    Life for the Lister Block?

Hamilton is awesome. It's the secret gem of the Golden Horseshoe. Hamilton has almost everything Toronto has to do but just on a much much smaller scale with less choice, but then again with no lineups and whack of affordable neighboruhood choices and very low-cost housing. I know of at least...

    Rob Ford's Toronto

in response to tkip and the Vaughan Road bike lane: Seriously? I live there. There is a bike going each way every single time I drive up to Nonna's. Enough to be annoying to me (a motorist!) particularly above Kenwood and near Atlas bustops. The bikes take the job left from Bathurst on...

    Who Will Challenge Rob Ford?

Yeah my comment wasn't about voters or voting patterns/trends - it was about whether and how Vaughan would be able to garner the support of the party machine. Apologies if that wasn't clear.

    Rob Ford's Toronto

I'm surprised - I live up that way, I use Vaughan Road multiple times per week to get to family at Duff/eg and to get to the Allen and there's pretty much some guy on a bike going each way each time, particularly east of Oakwood. It's a very direct route north without having to brave Bathurst.

    Who Will Challenge Rob Ford?

I'm a pretty big fan of hers and that was a pretty interesting article but her 'analysis' is just a big boatload of excuse-making and hindsight. If you're waiting around to be asked to the dance, you're not in contention to begin with. Plus, some of her main assertions jsut turned out to be...

    Who Will Challenge Rob Ford?

In 2014 my bet is that Ford will be able to effectively argue that he needs another term to fully mop up the gravy and get the subway plans running and with no compelling anti-Ford candidate, he'll win again like Miller did. Agreed. Vaughan is very front-and-centre on urban issues but he's...

    Privatizing Garbage Collection

You realize that the mayor's chosen successor dropped out and that 30 out of 36 incumbents were re-elected, right?

    Privatizing Garbage Collection

Taking on the unions is always a lose-lose when it's done by the left. Miller was nuts to do that. Why they haven't figured that out, I don't know.

    Who Will Challenge Rob Ford?

They're definitely setting Matlow up for a future run to take out/replace Ford in about eight years. In the meantime, I could see Kennedy running - he could grab enoguh of the left and center to make a run worthwhile, but I don't know that he could win. He doesn't strike me as the type to run...

Elderly couple ordered to demolish addition to house

Prosecuting the elderly to a tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars is kinda crazy but at the same time I dunno, this one strikes me as someone taking a risk and then throwing their hands in the air when caught. Just too many excuses - multiple offers, no home inspection, kids out of the...

Why to support the Liberal Party

Regarding Rathika, I don't think I've painted her as personable, or anything for that matter. I met Rana briefly and saw Gallyot speak. I would say Rana was slick - and that's not necessarily a negative, particularly considering his business chairperson background. Very very polished. In my...

Why to support the Liberal Party

So you're offended because a party targetted a specific group of people to vote for them? That's what they are organized to do! So what is an appropriate "dominant driver"? Why is anyone else's dominant driver less appropriate than yours? What other groups, subjects or topics are verboten...

Why to support the Liberal Party

Anyone can play that game. It could be said that the Conservative candidate is a politician's assistant, and is a 'consultant' and a 'small-businessperson'. (She is a not a lawyer.) It could also be said that the Liberal candidate heads a business lobby group and was politician's assistant...

    CBC projects Conservative government

Bingo. Part of it is the silence, too. I heard the 19-year old interviewed (in French) and he was actually pretty articulate. Much better than I would have been at 19 (or now! haha). He may be the benefit of the sweep but he could end up being pretty decent. Maybe he'll be like that...

Why to support the Liberal Party

Hahahahahahahahahaahahahahaah if it's "quite clear to most of us" then how they heck did that person get elected? I've always found the 'ethnic politics' arguments to be totally partisan. Compeltely phoney. It's always a triumph for diversity when it's your candidate and low-ball tribal...

    CBC projects Conservative government

Agreed - my point exactly. So then why is the media only talking about one of them?

    CBC projects Conservative government

Other than the French issue, those are all things that have happened to/been done by other candidates in other ridings where they've been elected and resulted in nary a peep. I certainly would have never voted for her - particularly because of the French! - but being a parachute candidate not...

    CBC projects Conservative government

It's definitely embarassing that she got elected without speaking French, but I think a lot of the focus on her is flat out sexist. Would anyone have ever cared if this happened with some two-bit used car salesman in rural Ontario? She's hardly the first to get elected without campaigning...

    Most undervalued area in Toronto?

As did we and we were impressed. The five points intersection (Oakwood, Vaughan, Belvidere) is a bit rough but once you on to the residential streets the area is pretty solid - nice homes, decently maintained, pride of ownership is evident particularly for many of the small bungalows. The area...

    Baby, we got a bubble!?

Yup and that's the mistake a lot of new homeowners are making. They're not thinking "what is the rent to ownership ratio going to be in three or five years?" - particularly for condo owners who plan to rent out their units as an investment. I see all these articles in the papers about what...
