Scramble Crossings (City of Toronto) (Yonge/Dundas, Yonge/Bloor, Bay/Bloor)

Whoops, guess I should have thought a bit more before that post.

Scramble Crossings (City of Toronto) (Yonge/Dundas, Yonge/Bloor, Bay/Bloor)

So far none of the scrambles have been on intersections with streetcars. I wonder if this is city policy. Otherwise Spadina/Dundas and Yonge/Queen would make a lot of sense.

    Getting Rid Of Unions

In the last decade Ontario has lost about 200,000 manufacturing jobs, and those that survived have seen their wages rolled back. Should the government be adding to this trend, or trying to counter it by maintaining stable employment and wages? Privatization is almost certain to mean lower wages...

    Getting Rid Of Unions

Contracting out is a much bigger deal than it was a few decades ago. Over the last decades wages have eroded in the private sector, while mostly staying the same in the public sector. This both increases the potential savings of contracting out, but also increases the amount of salary current...

    Miller's Legacy

One way to assess Miller's legacy is to look back on the issues that were central in the 2003 election, and how few of them are still at the top of voters minds. From what I recall the four top issues were: *Garbage - Green Lane landfill solved this for the near future *Corruption - The MFC...

What does the new Council look like?

A lot of the new councillors are undecided on just about everything. After six months running for office, you'd think they'd have developed opinions on these pretty basic questions.

    Next Mayor of Toronto?

The bottom line is that Smitherman could not have won this election. He got decent poll numbers when he launched based on name recognition and the strength of the Liberal brand in Toronto, and at the end by being the default anti-Ford candidate, but these numbers hid just how poor a candidate he...

    How Toronto voted by ward

Working on Joe's campaign, I've had ward by ward polling numbers to look at for the last few months and have noticed a few patterns. It's especially interesting to compare the numbers to 2006. Here is a poll by poll map I did of Miller's vote in 2006: Here is the same map for 2003...

    Election Day/Night Plans?

We're doing a joint party with Mike Layton, so one half of the room should be cheery.

    Election Day/Night Plans?

Today I'm running Joe's E-day. Tonight, I'll be at his party. The result isn't one I'm going to be happy with, but it's been a fun campaign.

    Next Mayor of Toronto?

At this point almost all of the 18% undecided are actually part of the 50-60% of the city that isn't going to vote at all.

    Next Mayor of Toronto?

Most of the biggest unions have endorsed and are standing by Pantalone. (CAW, Steel, Teachers, OPSEU, Labourer's CUPE, ATU). While the trades federation endorsed Smitherman, many of the member unions went for Joe, including the electrical workers which is one of the largest.
