With the recent push from City Planning to retain employments lands this is going to have a steep hill to climb.

How would that even work? I can't imagine there's a simple way to just "allow" mid-rises without massive zoning changes since they're legal bylaws.

Yeah, I always thought the the tunneling was relatively cheap (the boring itself) and it was the installation of track, electrical, signaling, etc. that drives up the cost. I found this from an article regarding Sheppard's construction from 2000:

With the move of the DRL to the 15 year plan Metrolinx needs to address a connection at Don Mills at least in some form. Detailed work of roughing in a box right underneath for the DRL might be too time consuming for the Crosstown schedule but at the very least Metrolinx needs to be sure that...

Considering they somehow failed to notice the development east of Brentcliffe that's been advertised for YEARS even with the LRT in their on street ads I wouldn't put much faith in their ability to plan for the future.

Beecroft is due to be extended north to Drewry when the subway gets extended right? And wow, I never thought I'd see the city actually expand Steele in the northeast. Always seemed to be conflicts with York Region over that idea.

I don't see how converting the Sheppard Subway to LRT would lead to a reasonable reduction in operating/capital cost. What makes a subway so expensive is its nature of being underground and grade separated. There's the cost of stations, tunnels and possibly bridges. All of these would still...

I thought part of what led to Ford's transit plan trouble with council was that it was too much of a problem to tunnel under the Don.
