Toronto Reference Library Renovation (Moriyama + Teshima)

    Ponderous, hulking and droopy.

    Toronto 170 Spadina | 46.94m | 12s | Plaza | BDP Quadrangle

Good thing we don't have a Science, Hospital & Information Technology district for their clever marketeers.

FAD Condos. What an unfortunate name. Common sense eludes the Marketing Department.

Urbanized: Gary Hustwit's documentaries to play at the Lightbox

A full house at tonight's late show, very heartening. The collective desire to make our mayor watch this reminder that cities are about imagination and interaction was palpable.

    Toronto Couture The Condominium | ?m | 42s | Philmor | Graziani + Corazza

I agree. I think that the main reason for this is that the corner silver cladding that could have served as a bold frame is needlessly ornamented with those horizontal lines, which carry the overwrought spandrel/mullion pattern onto what should be a smooth surface. Death by a thousand paper cuts.

    Toronto Charlie Condos | 122.83m | 36s | Great Gulf | Diamond Schmitt

As I walk around downtown west, I find myself doing double takes at Charlie repeatedly - and being surprised over and over in a good way. Perhaps it has something to do with the committed, pure modernism - rendered with a light touch. It just seems sharp to me - kind of Audi-like. In contrast...

Toronto George Brown College Waterfront Campus | ?m | 8s | George Brown | KPMB

Well said, R.R. Rat. For me, the "greatness" of this building lies in the enabling, life-giving qualities you point out and that I also anticipate it will bring to Sherbourne Common. I think peering over the park from the fourth-floor terrace will be an engaging, surprising view as the...

    Toronto TeaHouse 501 Yonge Condominiums | 170.98m | 52s | Lanterra | a—A

City Lover, Madame/Sir, excellent post. I very much respect the fact that you can reason with the attitudes/opinions of kkggg, but I can't, I just get angry. My bad, trying to learn and work on it. Plus, I very much support the right of that poster to have, hold and voice those opinions. Bring...

The thought occurred to me, too.

    Toronto TeaHouse 501 Yonge Condominiums | 170.98m | 52s | Lanterra | a—A

I know I shouldn't be provoked by this chauvinism, but I find the need to point out in no uncertain terms how odious and appalling I find this poster's vision of human society. The moral and ethical stance invoked is indifferent to misery of others and fascist in its prescriptions. I would...

Toronto George Brown College Waterfront Campus | ?m | 8s | George Brown | KPMB

Me likey. My mind wanders to Pompidou because of the frank and explicit treatment of staircases, hence the flow of people.

    Toronto Living Shangri-La Toronto | 214.57m | 66s | Westbank | James Cheng

And yet some insist there's no there there. I don't get it. In my view, this is precisely the salient counter-argument to proponents of Toronto's becoming more like Manhattan, in other words more "grand" because we begin to emulate that great ur-city's vertiginous canyons. That's not going to...

handsome, even more so in real life than in photos. enjoying the how the pillars are polite to the surroundings and their height, all the while bringing lightness, motion and topsy-turvyness to the tower

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Good point, Tulse. I have no idea what the numbers are, and so no solid basis to suggest it's a big public safety issue. My observation is anecdotal - that of a streetcar rider who feels the problem of drivers not stopping is getting worse. On almost every streetcar ride, I see multiple...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Vegeta, I'm intrigued by your mention of the Midtown line project; from your post, it sounds like this project is indeed something that will happen down the road. I realize that the Midtown line was shown in The Big Move, but I'm curious how GO/Metrolinx currently regard this one - is it...
