Interesting... the only photo I could find in the archives that show the top of the building is from 5:15 on April 13, 1923 -- long before the sign you're talking about: (More photos from Bay and Queen St, here.)

    Goldie's Toronto

Those are great, as always. Funny how some photos have more impact when you're scrolling through them on the computer... The top of 'Rear of 4965 Yonge St.' is interesting, but then the contrast between the new and old doesn't hit you until you scroll down to the bottom of the photo.

Historic photos from Toronto on this day

What a great photo! I've added two green blocks: On the far west side of the photo is the site of the Canadian Stage Company and Canadian Opera Company, with Berkeley Castle just off the picture, I assume. Then just east of that is 51 Parliament St, the old Consumers' Gas Co, Station A As our...

DSC's link to Wikipedia is the best answer... "Carlton Street to the north, Yonge Street to the west, Sherbourne Street to the east and Queen Street to the south" Used to be 'Moss Park'. I didn't realize it was a new name, from 2001... I thought it was an older name, from the days when the...

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

Going back a bit in this thread... I can't agree more! In fact you don't even need a treasure to hide, just a pencil sketch for future generations would do. Here's a sketch we found removing wall-paper from our house in North Toronto. Likely from the 60's: (Posted to my photoblog back in...
