    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Could one of the main reasons for this be the costs of maintaining operations on an existing highway (building detoured right of way and re-establishing original, temporary structures etc.) and staging around that, as opposed to building what is needed, no limits, on greenfield?

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Am I too much of a pessimist, or is it just a sad truth? Over that last 5 years or so, Billions have been spent, incredible amounts of new infrastructure is in place or on the cusp of coming online, however it looks like GO Transit is not much further ahead than it was when work was started? To...

    Woodbine Centre

If Mr. Hinn, I assume, cannot afford owning the Mall currently, where is he getting the capital to bid on repurchasing the property ?

Do you really believe Metrolinx would be the adult in the room making proper decisions about these routes? ;)

Just curious, if they go through with demolition, would this be the tallest building demolished in Toronto's history so far? I do have a fascination with how very tall towers will be demolished when their time comes, even if it's long after I'm gone.

https://northernontario.ctvnews.ca/northern-ontario-s-population-surges-at-record-rate-1.6912556?__vfz=medium%3Dsharebar Considering resent population discussions in this thread, I thought this was an interesting article to show up in my feed. I am not saying this proves the need to build a Taj...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Bloomington station was partially built as a relief station for Aurora. The Richmond Hill line service however does not intice many from Aurora from using it.

Guess that swing bridge will need to be totally rethought for VIA's HxR service.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Was working on Saturday un Maple, so I thought I'd post a few photos of the ongoing construction at the station. It appears to me that there will be a third track going through the station in between the two tracks with platforms

    LCBO / The Beer Store

Maybe various governments can reduce duties/taxes and allow the LCBO pass along the discounts they receive from being the world's largest purchaser of beverage alcohol so it would be less costly to purchase. I realize that won't solve all thefts, but may greatly reduce thefts especially if the...

Bradford Bypass (MTO, Hwy 400 - Hwy 404)

For such a realitivly short freeway what is the point in splitting the contract like this. I can see possibly the merit if it was several hundred kilometers of new freeway, but, it's just approximately 12 kms of total new build.

Metrolinx makes the CIA look like an open data point. You'd be better off trying to get info from the NSA or CSIS.

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

I agree with Bloomington over Gormley. I mentioned the realitivly simple station track tie in as just a possible reason why they chose Gormley over Bloomington. ONR likely just didn't want to jump through the hoops CN would likely want for CN to construct the tie in.

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

Having just visited Bloomington this past weekend, I see why Bloomington was not chosen as a stop. The station track ends just beyond the North end of the platform. If the Northlander were to stop at Bloomington, the station track would need to be tied back into the main north of the station.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Begs the question of just what is the complication of constructing a second bridge and related track/signal work in this realitivly short section ?

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

At Oshawa Station there has been a pilot in place since before the pandemic wherein after 11 am, the reserve spots are free and open to the general public to park in as long as they vacate the spot before the start of service the next day. I have no idea why Metrolinx has not extended this to...
