While I do agree some of the earlier complaints were a bit overblown, missing more than 40% of the fleet is way more than normal problems every system hits. The only thing comparable is that Edmonton once lost a similar number of trains due to a damaged pole hitting every train that past it.

Trains are definitely crush loaded today :(....

The yard is where the trains run under manual control. I imagine one train was too close to a switch or frog where things obviously narrow.

So on a topic other than capacity, I'm trying to understand how a group that promised experience for maintenance has made so many obvious mistakes. The shutdown on New Year's eve due to dirt buildup on the pantographs and then this shortage due to wheel flats are well known and understood winter...

Given that Vancouver, with double the population of Ottawa hasn't hit 18K with the Expo line (though it's approaching it) I don't see us hitting even that in the near future. Ottawa isn't Toronto, it's growing but not at that kind of pace. We definitely aren't going to be maxed out by 2030. But...

I'm curious what you mean by track and platform separation. PSDs? I'm not sure that's an absolute requirement

The design capacity is 24.7 K PPHD, based on two assumptions. They have an ultimate headway of 2 minutes, and the full platform length of 120m with the additional 2 modules added to each train pair. At least on paper, there's plenty more room, but we'll have to see what the actual true max...

They were down to 8 trains at various points this morning, so half the fleet out of commission :(

They are saying maybe into tomorrow. Getting to Hurdman wasn't bad, but I'm glad I go south from there and didn't have to join the masses getting onto the R1 shuttle

It gets harder physically. You want to make sure the trains are at a sufficient stopping distance between them, which for a train is a fair distance. Also at 90 seconds you've really hit the point where any single train delay will throw the whole system off kilter, it's harder and harder to...

It's the loading gauge (width) and vehicle height that's the determines compatibility more than track guage.

They publish them annually on OC Transpo.com but haven't updated the stats yet since line 1 opened.

Highly unlikely. The width is too different, also it's unlikely the TTC would want a non open gangway model. The TRs are part of Bombardier's movia family so use a design that's shared by lots of other Metros (despite looking cosmetically different), The R179s on the other hand are based on a...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Even though it's called the Skytrain not all of it is elevated. The Canada Line itself runs underground for about 10K from Waterfront station to Marine Drive mostly in a bored twin tunnel. It's very comparable, though it has incredibly short 40-50m platforms which is why the tunneled section is...

Not without major rebuild. I believe frequency is their only solution. Of course if you believe their claims then the REM can move a lot more people than TTC's Line 1. I'd take that with a grain (or maybe a whole spoonful) of salt. Edit: After reading closer I see they mean over the entire rush...

I'm hoping now that the system isn't breaking down multiple times a day they go back and revisit dwell times again. They kind of overcompensated, the train sits way too long at the downtown stations .

Since the Citadis has the same 4 person arrangement, I expected lots of complaining here with ours, but people seem fine with it. I swear the Citadis has slightly more leg room in the pod, but until they start running on Finch it's hard to do a side by side comparison.

They are way short on drivers. They kept talking about massive layoffs when the train opened, so people left on their own, and with the year+ delay more people left the they were going to layoff, now they don't have enough drivers to provide the full schedule.
