Haha! That one I hadn't heard before. I think I need to emblazon it on something to prominently display at work...

Well-reasoned, though a bit optimistic, I fear... I've been thinking along the same lines about not having much quid pro quo to offer, next term. Hadn't thought about the FoFam dynamic, but I find your take on it quite possible and amusing in an evil sort of way :D

Cringing a bit at our relative ages. I knew Dan Hill in high school :D Didn't go to the same HS he did, and he had a couple of years on me - but he was dating a gal at our school so he hung out there sometimes. So...please tell me you're both only about 10 years old? ;D

Well summed up. Ugh. Wonder what % 'x' really is, and what % over the basic 'crazification factor' % might actually vote (and vote Ford when it comes right down to it). Here's hoping some of the 'not Ford Nation' element you've included, are too apathetic to actually go vote (dare one hope...

Thank you all for much-needed laffs. Couldn't possibly quote all the clever sallies that made me chuckle, but these are a great representative sample. :D

My first reaction was disappointment also...however, I believe upon reflection, that Blair handled it just right. He gave no one 'ammo' to call him petty or suggest that it was merely a grudge match, and he used the press conference to hammer home the severity of the wrong-doing (which is often...

    :D:D A tag-team patter-song act - yikes! ETA a shout-out to casita - how you find these so-appropriate youtube items, etc. I do not know, but it's brilliant. :-)

*puzzled* Is he going back all the way to the mothballed Lower Queen subway station? ETA: I had forgotten that was intended to be a streetcar subway, not subway trains.

:D Even so. From Wiktionary (apologies, purists - 'tis handy, and has this correct, I believe): " jargon (countable and uncountable, plural jargons) (uncountable) A technical terminology unique to a particular subject. (countable) Language characteristic of a particular group...

Was about to mention that one - also Baie Verte (pronounced Bay Vurt). :) Streetcars v buses - still? Oof. That was being debated well before I left Toronto. And subways/LRT, of course. Plus ça change... *sigh*

2014 Municipal Election: Toronto Mayoral Race

Oh! Interesting...could a current Toronto voter respond as to whether there is a paper ballot completed or if the vote is straight onto a screen, in your voting machines? We use 'electronic voting machines' here (Michigan) but a paper ballot is still marked - it's then fed into the machines...

Yes indeed! Total sidenote to the thread here - but Fort Detroit, of course, was a big scene in the French and Indian war. It didn't become British until 1760, and even then, Chief Pontiac had a good try at taking it back by seige. One can see the French influence in the layout of lots along...

Not here in Detroit, it isn't! Mind you, it isn't 3 syllables, either. Just DeTROYT. Unless you're talking DEE.troit!BASKET.ball! which is closer to singing, anyway. As for Toronto...guilty of 'Toronno', here. But then, I grew up in the depraved wilds of Don Mills. :)
