    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

This is the link everyone who is asking "why" should be reading. It explains the logic, which is based upon developing a naming system that could be applied consistently across the region. Here's what seems to be the key framework: Developing a consistent system makes a lot of sense to me. I...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Naming stations after neighbrouhoods makes navigating the city more difficult, but it also helps to develop and strengthen community identities in our minds. Fairbank might not be well known NOW, but I have no doubt that if they chose that name that within a couple of years people would become...

    TTC: Jane (LRT) RapidTO

    There's still a platform. It's just a low one.

    TTC: Jane (LRT) RapidTO

Can confirm. Was dazzled by her smile while I shopped there. Although I really appreciate proposing functional solutions from elsewhere, I don't think it would work in this case. TTC gauge and standard gauge are VERY similar. Each wheel is only ~1 inch "further out" than with standard gauge...

Toronto Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport | ?m | ?s | Ports Toronto | Arup

That's kinda splitting hairs, but I'll rephrase: In order to add jet flights to new destinations, Porter will have to get rid of existing flights from YTZ. It would only make sense that the first places to get trips chopped would be lower-demand destinations such as North Bay or Timmins. Even...

Toronto Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport | ?m | ?s | Ports Toronto | Arup

As others have pointed out, since there is a cap on the number of movements at YTZ, and since that cap is already maxed out, for Porter to add destinations with their jets will require them to get rid of destinations like North Bay and Timmins.

    Toronto Queens Quay & Water's Edge Revitalization | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

Too bad TTC vehicles don't have external video cameras! We could be making a greatest hits reel like they did in Houston:

Here's a map: http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?R=646nm%40ytz%0D%0A1114nm%40ytz&MS=wls&DU=mi The smaller range is the current loaded Q400 range from YTZ, the larger one is the maximum range of a loaded Q400, assuming sufficient runway length.

    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

I like how we're now able to build on top of the water treatment facility, after so many claimed otherwise during the previous round of discussions.

Porter is limited by the length of the runway at YTZ. With a longer runway, the range of the Q400 is what is stated on the Bombardier website.

Yes, I stated that in my post. "Their seasonal direct routes have weight limitations."

Toronto Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

I'm not sure about that. Seems typical to me that NY, practically the home of "not invented here syndrome", when using an elevator design that is used in many locations elsewhere in the world, took a year just to get it working.

Toronto Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport | ?m | ?s | Ports Toronto | Arup

Q400s are severely distance and/or weight restricted at YTZ due to runway length. Porter doesn't fly non-stop from YTZ to Halifax (792mi), stopping at either Ottawa or Montreal on the way. Their seasonal direct routes have weight limitations. Yet YTZ-MLB is 1073mi. So there will either be a...

Toronto Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

Agreed. NYC is literally the worst possible place to compare to when it comes to construction projects. Everywhere there on average costs more and takes longer than anywhere else in the world.

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

You can't judge the demand for a bridge based on how many people are swimming across the river. You can't judge the demand for a bike lane based on how many people are cycling in mixed traffic.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

It really drove home how well fare-by-distance can work. You can just travel around and feel confident that you're going to be charged a fair and appropriate fare, no worrying about transfer rules and a lot less trying to figure out whether the cost is worth it.

    Colourful characters from the past

My first night back in Toronto and I discover Zanta passed out on the sidewalk at Yonge and Dundas, surrounded on Zanta-themed messages spelled out in tape on the sidewalk around him. It's sad. We know he has issues, but at least he was relatively physically healthy before. How long has this...
