    Zoning Reform Ideas

No comments on the rest of your response, but I believe here, that he's referring to small-scale apartment buildings, not fourplexes.

This visualization is making the rounds today. Found it super interesting: https://schoolofcities.github.io/tod-toronto-1996-to-2021/?mc_cid=640044e549&mc_eid=88b6f899a3

    Toronto Pape Transit-Oriented Community | 99.72m | 29s | Infrastructure ON | SvN

I'm truly surprised the Mayor's office isn't working with the province/ML to do some of what you suggested. Guess they don't want to be the lightning rod for the ire of residents when properties get expropriated. ML sure won't give them cover.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

?! There’s a big difference between being restrained and being kicked repeatedly in the ribs while down. It’s wild to me that both of you think that kicking a detainee constitutes reasonable behavior. I’m with Richard: that cop needs to be fired.

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Maybe they’re foreshadowing the fact that the LRT lines will be routinely blocked by accidents and left-turning drivers :p

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Interesting. I don’t see specific mention of OnCorr in the budget (https://budget.ontario.ca/2024/chapter-1a.html#s-8) Should I read anything into that?

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

The amusing thing is that both those products referenced in the cartoon (airplanes, elevators) have a substantial amount of software. No one would pay for having the same quality standard for LOB software. The testing and documentation requirements are over-the-top.

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Yeah - 3 months feels over the top. That said, I’ve no real understanding of what software change management and testing in this space looks like. No doubt it’s highly regulated and documentation heavy. And, my understanding is that they’re testing the integration prior to deploying something...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

IIRC the next provincial election is 2026. That’s plenty of time, and no one will remember this as an OPC issue. Metrolinx does one thing supremely well: they take the fall for whoever their political masters are, and people blame Metrolinx for this, not Queens Park. Besides, assuming the...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Given this news, my bet is March 2025 for an opening. First off, I’m not surprised the software has defects - all software has defects! And integration time is when the most surprising ones show up, so I’m sympathetic. That said, it (sounds?) like they’re next rolling out a release after 3...

    Toronto 2485 Eglinton Ave West | 150.6m | 46s | Cityzen | gh3

Don’t know that city hall is to blame here. Though, yeah - I agree that the quality of our waterfront buildings and the ground level experience is pretty sub-par and a wasted opportunity in general.

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

From City Hall Watcher yesterday: I must have missed that capital spending on BikeShare was slated to be reduced this year :(

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

This sucks, and honestly - I didn’t foresee this. In retrospect I should have. Is there a reason we don’t have barriers for the majority of the above-ground alignment excluding the intersections? Perhaps some sort of metal fencing as opposed to concrete jersey barriers (given experience with...

    Zoning Reform Ideas

I’m honestly not sure where to put this: https://pca.st/episode/471bcd06-90d8-4709-bb72-b6f3f22ed1bc Podcast talking about how a county in Maryland delivers affordable housing. My understanding is that they directly fund and deliver a building containing both market and affordable housing. I...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

https://globalnews.ca/news/10376331/new-carriages-metrolinx-go-trains-bike-rules-review/ FTA: Metrolinx is set to introduce eight new, refurbished bike-specific carriages to trains in and out of Toronto as it finalizes its response to an influx of electric bikes on its network.

407 Rail Freight Bypass/The Missing Link

I’m fairly confident in saying (with absolute ignorance) that that will not happen. Doug Ford and his government has not demonstrated much forward thinking in terms of land-banking etc. and I haven’t seen them really push either of the railways hard - or consistently! - on making improvements...

    Toronto Surface Transit Network Plan

I thought Sheppard ranked quite low in staff's assessment of potential ridership and 'impact'? In fact, in the study you linked it was in the 2nd lowest quartile. Is the first motion simply a case of Council endorsing something that's happening anyways? Also, it's wild that: A Finch West...
