    2018 Ontario Provincial Election Discussion

Isn't the subway the only part of our system that breaks even/turns a profit? This doesn't sound like a good deal for Toronto.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

The difference being that when you lose a token to a malfunctioning gate you're out $3.50. When that happens trying to load money on to a Presto card you're out a lot more than that.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

I smell a class action lawsuit in their not so distant future if they don't refund and then fix problems like that.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Unfortunately all fare collectors don't seem to be on the same page. The guy at Sheppard West station on Thursday basically told me that it wasn't his problem and that he was under no obligation to let me in. Thankfully I had a credit card with me.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

That message didn't make a lot of sense to me when I saw it this morning...especially the part saying "please ride as you normally would." How is that possible when the card won't let me through the gates?

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

I can confirm the Presto issue on Thursday. I was unable to tap on at the bus stop and at the subway station on my way home from work. I checked the Presto website this morning, and my card is still reading as cancelled.

On the other hand, it looks like third party attack ads against the PCs are having an effect: https://www.thestar.com/news/queenspark/2017/11/10/poll-suggests-union-attack-ads-on-brown-are-taking-a-toll.html

    Toronto Berczy Park Revitalization | ?m | ?s

I find "dog fountain park" works a lot better when you're trying to direct someone there to meet up. It's otherwise pretty much impossible when there are as many ways to pronounce it as there are people trying to pronounce it. I've always said "bear-see".

    Amazon Second HQ

I believe that tariffs depend on the origin of the goods, not the location of the head office. However I do agree that the general protectionist and anti-immigration sentiment coming from the White House right now does make setting up offices outside of the US far more attractive in terms of...

Ridiculous comments and claims made by City Councillors

Or maybe to an actual third world country....and stay there.

    Mayor John Tory's Toronto

You think that more than half of city council will vote for any plan that puts half of them out of work? Not likely, especially given our current municipal electoral system which essentially rewards incumbency with a job for life. I think it will take ranked ballot elections or direct...

Will Tory face stronger opposition from the Left or a right-wing populist in the next election?

I hope that Cole does run. Unless he can mange enough support to split the right vote and pull a Nenshi he has little chance of actually winning, but he would likely provide a balance to Ford and keep Tory from going all in on the right to woo as many Ford voters as possible.

    Amazon Second HQ

I'm not sure I buy that line of reasoning. This isn't a "branch plant" that Amazon is setting up. They're investing 5 billion to split their headquarters to two locations. This second location is head-office, not branch-office. Secondly, why would Amazon spend 5-billion as a trojan horse to...

    Baby, we got a bubble!?

The building I'm in went up in 1987 and is currently just over 60 cents. Well managed and in decent condition.

    Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

Interesting that they chose Mike Layton as the strong progressive candidate.

Toronto Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport | ?m | ?s | Ports Toronto | Arup

Agreed, but we need to keep balance in mind. The existence of an airport shouldn't itself be a license for unrestrained expansion (not accusing you of pushing any particular view). This airport is an asset, but given the other uses of the area and the nearness of Pearson, there's no reason to...

Toronto Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport | ?m | ?s | Ports Toronto | Arup

It has nothing to do with bumping up the size of the plane. They'd have been pushing for more take-off and landing slots and longer operating hours. That's what would turn it into a "massive air transportation hub", and is exactly what we don't need in an area we're trying to maintain for...

    2018 Ontario Provincial Election Discussion

The debt it the problem. Servicing that high a debt is severely hindering our ability to properly fund our operating and capital budgets without going further into debt. Now that we seem to be back in the black, we need to start addressing this.

    Toronto Sun Life Financial Tower & Harbour Plaza Residences | 236.51m | 67s | Menkes | Sweeny &Co

If it's just left up to the condo associations, attempts to block are likely going to fail. There are a lot of resident owners and long term renters that get involved too, occasionally going through airbnb's listings trying to make sure there aren't any listings for their building.

    Toronto Sun Life Financial Tower & Harbour Plaza Residences | 236.51m | 67s | Menkes | Sweeny &Co

There are condos around that are quite strict about their short term rental units. My building shuts them down as soon as they find them. Fines are levied if they don't get the picture.
