GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Huh? Last we heard (the September Metrolinx board meeting), GO was still deciding on equipment for RER service but was considering various combinations of electric locos/bilevel coaches, dual model locos/bilevel coaches, and EMUs. We'll likely hear more at next week's board meeting, but the...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

GO is buying 253 more Alexander-Dennis low floor buses over 5 years, with ADL establishing a chasis assembly plant in the GTA that will create 30 full time jobs. Interestingly, the press release indicates that these buses will be able to get into Hamilton, Yorkdale, York Mills, and Union, thus...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

EXIF data in the photos says they were taken with a Nikon D800, and there is a pro photographer copyright in the metadata as well. I think we can chop this up to incompetent image processing by whoever is running the 407 East Phase 1 site.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

This photo is of the 401/West Connector/Lake Ridge Rd area. This has fallen a bit behind schedule, to the point that Lake Ridge Road over the 401 was closed on Saturday until December 19 so that they can begin demolishing the old (narrow) bridge before the new bridge is complete. This is...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

As a GO bus rider who gets NO compensation for delays whatsoever, I have absolutely no sympathy for your complaint.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Of course there is, but there isn't Via service to any other Lakeshore East station, which explains his point about taking GO to Oshawa to connect to Via there.

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

I'm certainly not agitating for a subway to Durham, but your comparison is flawed. Durham Region is four times the size of the City of Toronto, and most of it is very much rural or small town. Those areas can be ignored for this discussion; no one is advocating for a subway to Port Perry...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

This thread is on Eglinton-Crosstown. The City of Toronto's contribution to Eglinton-Crosstown costs is precisely $0. It's contribution to the Scarborough subway is higher, but only because the City decided that a funded solution - to which its contribution would also be $0 - was not good...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

Oshawa-Finch Express (96) has them on some trips. I've had one on my ride home from work since the beginning of July. I don't think they get get into Yorkale though; certainly I've never seen one on Yonge Street on any of the routes that pass through Yorkdale nor on Oshawa-Yorkdale (92).

    TTC: Redesigning TTC Signage

Interestingly in light of the pictograph discussion above, the TTC just posted their new streetcar pictograph on Twitter: https://twitter.com/bradTTC/status/502530085694767104/photo/1

    TTC: Redesigning TTC Signage

If that's a small white sign with black numbering on the side of the road, it indicates you are entering a GO fare zone. Since the zone numbers follow the same general numbering conventions as routes (where the first digit corresponds to a geographic area), they're easily confused. For example...

    TTC: Redesigning TTC Signage

It's complicated. The historic numbers on the web site and GO timetables were called table numbers, not route numbers. Tables often contained what today would be different routes . For example, the "Oshawa Finch Express" trips used to, before it got called route 96, be part of table 94, which...

    TTC: Redesigning TTC Signage

Small correction; SmartTrack is John Tory's plan.

    TTC: Redesigning TTC Signage

It's only relatively recently that this has been true - it happened something like five years ago or thereabouts. Having said that, my unscientific sampling at the bus stop waiting for my trip home tells me that most people do tend to refer to GO buses by their numbers, but that's probably...

Toronto Union Subway Station: Second Platform and Concourse Improvements | ?m | ?s | TTC | IBI Group

Well, the Bay Concourse is only closing temporarily for construction; it'll re-open. Granted when it does we will still have some of the traffic heading out through the York Concourse and Northwest PATH, but any traffic issues that exist due to the new Union subway station concourse layout...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

For what it's worth, the "Let GO Know" survey program just asked me a few questions on marketing surrounding the electrification project, and in particular, the naming of the project. That's not particularly important at this point, but there was a bit of detail in the explanatory material that...

    Toronto Union Station Revitalization | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto | NORR

Easy to say, impossible to do. Be patient; good things are coming, starting later this year.

"Transit safety" are responsible for fare enforcement. I presume that management staff will be doing their best to handle enforcement during any strike.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Not quite. There also would not be any weekend Barrie or Niagara Falls trains, and stations would be managed by nonunion staff so you might have some operational issues caused by people doing jobs they are not used to doing. Bus maintenance people would also be on strike, but without bus...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Was first to answer on one but added an extra word to my answer reflexively ("Leslie Street Barns" instead of "Leslie Barns").
