    Toronto 2015 Pan American Games

I was on the QEW going westbound at 10am on Sunday and there were in the eastbound lanes laying them. When I came back eastbound on the QEW at 4pm most of them were half gone. I kept having to dodge the loose bits so they didn't stick to the underside of my car. Like little tumbleweeds of sticky...

    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

No. Its not possible. The problem is all the cross streets would need to bridge over it, which would be just as expensive as the current design (which bridges the expressway over the cross streets); it would make accessing the waterfront from downtown even harder for pedestrians, which defeats...

See Borough Market in London. It's under a network of three different railway lines.

You're not serious are you? Suburbs are inherently inefficient compare to urban area. Just look at Toronto's residential tax rate compared to the rest of the GTA, it's half of places like Oshawa and Pickering. That's because the downtown core is supplementing the suburbs.

As a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) Ms. Keesmaat is obliged to protect the public interest above all else. If she fails to uphold the public interest she could lose her professional designation. That doesn't mean planners can't disagree on things, including what is in the public's best...

    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

I think, no matter what the vote, the vote should be considered the final word on the issue by all Torontonians. Tear it down or rebuilt it, but don't keep debating it like what happened to transit in Scarborough.

Income Polarization in Toronto - The Three Cities study

Hummm? Countless articles you say? Maybe you can cite a few?

    Toronto 2015 Pan American Games

People are aware of the potential traffic issues, but that isn't the same as complaining about it. Most people I know are happy to do their part to make sure the games go well.

    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

I agree with you about the transit upgrade timing. However, the number of people who don't have a choice about driving downtown is relatively small, probably miniscule. Just about everybody can drive to a GO station. Getting those "choice" drivers off the road frees up space for people who...

I'm not even sure it's the drivers themselves that are complaining. I think it's more certain media outlets that have a particular agenda that are trying to make traffic an issue.

Income Polarization in Toronto - The Three Cities study

Poverty and poverty distribution are two different things. Poverty is a social issue that needs to be dealt with irrespective of geography. Poverty distribution is a geographic issue that will exist as long as there are differences in people's wealth (which is always - except in a true communist...

    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

This is an important concept, and may be the reason why the current expressway-user numbers don't matter. Given a choice people will always drive until congestion levels get so high it's quicker to take transit. Therefore the ratio of drivers-to-transit-users for people with a choice is...

    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

The George and Main alternative doesn't preclude further extension to the north. Another alternative that I've never heard discussed is to run both directions on George and keep the on-street parking along Main. That would probably support a lot of new mixed-use development along George, while...

    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

I think we also need to talk about the elephant in the room. If they tear down the Gardiner from Jarvis to the DVP it opens the door to tearing it down from Strachan to Jarvis in the future, whether its replaced by a tunnel or boulevard. If they don't tear down the Gardiner from Jarvis to the...

    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

The problem with Gardiner east of Parliament is it swings away from the railway tracks to be next to the water (actually Keating Channel). If they stayed next to the railway tracks a raised expressway would be less of an issue. The reason they swing to the waterfront is to make the curve to get...

Tory's best position might be "If we tear it down we have to put more money into SmartTrack". That would give him an out, give him his SmartTrack and make him look like a team-building leader.

    Toronto 2015 Pan American Games

Do you think its a coincidence that Pinball Clemons (the spokesperson for the PanAm Games) is now doing TV commercials asking Torontoians to be kind and do random good deeds?

    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

That's another great argument for tearing down the Gardiner. Making it harder to drive means more people will use transit, so the DVP will become less congested. The problem is the DVP is too narrow and there are too many cars feeding into it.

    Planned Sprawl in the GTA

On the other hand, the Province is unlikely to make any changes UNLESS the city council endorses it. The developers have to convince the city and region that their lands are appropriate for development, then they take that the Province and the Province says yea or nay.
