That's because there is no plan. Someone thought putting John Tory in charge was a good idea. That someone was wrong. Hello....right next to Ontario Place, is the Toronto Islands. Fits the bill. It's an island...with no cars....child-friendly. Oh yea....one thing Toronto's downtown...

The Power Plant is a cutting edge, niche facility that by it's very nature, isn't going to appeal to a vast audience. But it's highly influential and the leading facility of its kind in the country. Many of the 4000 events that take place at this facility fall into the same category. That...

I would tend to agree. But why would that be a bad thing? It may be the most/only interesting thing about the property from the perspective of the passerby. I just happen to like the concept of a wider spread collection of smaller, multidisciplinary, on-site public art. I've actually made...

Oh I see. By your logic, McDonalds must serve the best food then. ha ha Yes there is. But I'm sure you have no interest in them. This is the only accurate statement you have made. And yet.... it still manages to draw 17 million visitors. Don't hurt yourself wrapping your head around that...

Toronto Sherbourne Common, Canada's Sugar Beach, and the Water's Edge Promenade | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto | Teeple Architects

This is the kind of remark you hear from people who generally don't know, or care about "art" in the first place. First of all, developers can allocate the funds to an off-site installation...if they want. And what exactly makes you think City Hall is going to do a better job at it? They...

Toronto Sherbourne Common, Canada's Sugar Beach, and the Water's Edge Promenade | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto | Teeple Architects

The fact that you refer to the Power Plant as a "third rate attraction" is why the rest of your giant rant loses any credibility.

While Zeidler's Pods/Cinisphere are still intact (thank god), the rest of what was Ontario Place really isn't intact any more...figuratively or literally. It was initially impressive partly due to it being cutting edge, which isn't the case any more. It was also not built to make money and...

Toronto Sherbourne Common, Canada's Sugar Beach, and the Water's Edge Promenade | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto | Teeple Architects

Didn't say we couldn't...just pointing out that what we currently have draws more people and has more to offer, so there's no reason for this "bean envy".

So what isn't a "boondoggle"? And Millennium Park was the poster child for boondoggle, so I don't see how that is a good model to follow (let's throw a half billion dollars worth of big name design at one tiny area and have vast swaths of the city in ruins). While I think the process would...

Toronto Sherbourne Common, Canada's Sugar Beach, and the Water's Edge Promenade | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto | Teeple Architects

Except we do have this...Harbourfront Centre. Which draws over 4 times the visitors and Millennium Park couldn't hold a candle to Harboufront's cultural programming. So what if Millennium Park is perceived as more famous? Ok...it doesn't have a $28 million Big Shiny Bean, but I wouldn't...

    Mayor John Tory's Toronto

Whenever the black market starts to upset the so-called "legit" market, you know it's time for an overhaul. But as usual, the wealthy doctors/lawyer types who own the expensive plates are the ones with the political influence, and I don't think they are willing to have their investments lose...

They aren't expanding...rather just repurposing the now vacant former Sears space.

    Toronto Yonge Eglinton Centre | ?m | 37s | RioCan | P + S / IBI

Both apartment buildings are part of YEC. The whole place was built at the same time. Only the small building at the corner of Eglinton & Duplex is not part of the complex. Guess they were the sole holdouts when Greenwin assembled the block. Greenwin had just come off a very successful land...

Integral House (James Stewart, 4s, Shim Sutcliffe) COMPLETE

As an exercise in design, it has few peers....anywhere. And at $28 million, it looks like you get it at cost, which makes it a relative bargain to boot! If I had the cash, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I'm just glad I got to experience the place first hand.

    Toronto Yonge Eglinton Centre | ?m | 37s | RioCan | P + S / IBI

None of those older pics are of the original interior....they are of later renovations (late 80's I think). I honestly can't remember how it looked when it first opened. I recall lots of chrome and plants. I do remember buying my pastel Pierre Cardin shirts at Big Steel Man in the early 80's...

    Toronto Yonge Eglinton Centre | ?m | 37s | RioCan | P + S / IBI

To be fair, Greenwin is the developer and RioCan didn't buy it until 2007, when the YEC had already undergone various unsympathetic alterations/renovations and additions. The original design had the square as part of a larger outdoor landscaping design...there was a large elevated outdoor area...

Since the inside of the new build will obviously match the new interior renos of the existing mall...there doesn't seem to be much to look forward to. The place looks like a giant Mc Cafe. Which reminds me of a bigger problem going on for Y&E. While it is densifying and maintaining it's...

That's a little too sensible of an idea....and therefore doomed.

    Toronto Yonge Eglinton Centre | ?m | 37s | RioCan | P + S / IBI

Really?? It's just what it looks like.....an unholy mess. The only thing that can be done is treat it like a Dundas Square and have all kinds of flashing lights/screens/adverts to distract you from the...um..."architecture". I find it strange that Silvercity installed those big elaborate...

The point he was making is that they are 100% publicly subsidized. And they shouldn't be. It's crazy how we have user fees for pretty much everything else these days...except the one thing that we would like to have people use less of. Just goes to show you how addicted we are to the...
