I know someone who lives in the mid-rise just south of this proposal (and across from Citylights). Not surprisingly, they're looking to move before the construction starts. This corner will be hell for a couple of years.

Amazing. If only half this stuff gets built the city will look like a different place. Especially the massive height being developed around the downtown periphery (M/G, 1 Yonge, Gerrard and Yonge). I'm begging the real estate gods for 5 more good years so most of the big stuff goes up.

On the first page there's a post from 2011 about the ground being cleared already. Did this take 4 years from demo to building? Seems longer than usual.

It still amazes me how quickly downtown drops off to the east. 88 Scott will help the transition a bit. We could use a few more 40-60 storey buildings between Yonge and Jarvis.

There's something very Romanesque about the current Grand. the jutting corners, the staircases wrapping around the outside, the fortified-looking entrance, the little turrent-thingys above the podium all remind me of a medieval castle or pre-Gothic cathedral. Is Romanesque brutalism a thing?

It's an indication of the amount of high-rise activity in the city that a building that is nearly 50 floors tall has not been updated in two months. Practically every day on this forum I have a "oh yeah, that one!" moment. Crazy times.

One must wonder why one can't stop thinking about what other people post on an Internet forum, especially about things as irrelevant as their particular taste in architecture.

I do love the balconies on this one. Refreshingly different than other buildings in the city. Interesting that they left the smaller balconies to do after the main ones are done, instead of going floor-by-floor all around.

Interesting. I don't think I've ever seen that particular crane and colour combination. Are there other blue and yellow cranes in town? New company, perhaps?

In the Postcity article Baghai is quoted as saying that he has never gone to the OMB. Can this be verified? Seems unlikely for a largish developer like him. Maybe the no-OMB thing is a point of pride, but I don't see why he would give up millions in profits on a site he already owns just to...
