General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

I'm a regular cyclist who can appreciate that Woodbine is a key artery that efficiently moves cars from Scarborough (Eglinton/Pharmacy & east & north) towards the core. Taking one lane on this route understandably has a great impact on drivers. There are other potential cycle routes to get...

The start of TIFF would have been an ideal time launch sales of this project. Marketing to the international guests with tons of cash may not have driven huge sales but it would have added to the high-end image they need to project. With the exception of the loosening earlier this year, we...

Does the City, the residents or neighbors have any legal recourse? That rendering shows a well lit and engaging street level filled with windows. The final product has a bunch of air vents and black walls. Assuming that rendering was part of what got approved by City planning, this final...

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

I rode about 100k today on Toronto Trails. While heading south beside the Don River a woman jumped aside and yelled at the lead in our group to use his bell. We weren't pressing her. It was just the relative speed we were at when passing surprised her. It is common courtesy to give a...

    Toronto Bloor Street Revitalization | ?m | ?s | Bloor-Yorkville BIA | architectsAlliance

Anyone else notice the poor lighting in this area? The lights in the benches and in the ground point upward. If there is nothing to reflect back on, like tree leaves and branches, then the light is lost. Perhaps the intent is to grow a mature canopy of trees so the lighting is warm and...

    Toronto Ontario Place | ?m | ?s | Infrastructure ON

Agreed. There are some beautiful structures and so much potential here. Toronto is in need of much more convention space in downtown. If we could connect Ontario Place to Union with a waterfront LRT it would it make sense to convert this space. In addition, ferries could make this a...

"Conclusion The proposed Zoning By-law Amendment application has been reviewed against the policies of the PPS (2014), the Growth Plan (2017) and the Official Plan. Staff are of the opinion that the Zoning By-law amendment is premature in the context of the on- going Golden Mile Secondary Plan...

Debate on the merits of the Scarborough Subway Extension

^Early transit systems including subways were built by the private sector. They were built where demand would generate a payback. We need some of that kind of thinking with regards to transit planning today. As much as vision and equity need to be part of the discussion, existing demand...

    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

^Check out the lighting that starts on slide 81. Considering how long and dark our winters are and how bleak this area is, lighting can compliment the physical design and transform the pedestrian experience. I like what is being proposed.

Great job by Bonnie Crombie in getting the provincial leaders to commit to funding the Hurontario LRT.

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

The images on pages 38, 39 and 40 outline expansion to what appears to be the existing facility on the South West. It doesn't look like they are referring to the Potential North Terminal location in the terminal expansion plans. If so, the proposed GO location would be terrible.

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

I have to agree. A major purpose of the DRL South is to connect two business centers: the existing center built around King & Bay and the new proposed future business center at the Lever site. With this in mind, the Queen alignment makes very little sense, it will require time-consuming...

Ontario Line North of Eglinton (was Relief Line North) (Speculation)

I went to the Relief Line North Public meeting, hosted at York Mills Collegiate last night. About 50 people were there, and I'd estimate that half were representatives from the TTC, City of Toronto or Metrolinx. A 20 minute presentation that outlined the background and corridor options was...

    Hamilton Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Houston does not rely on LRT. They have a single, under used line. There is limited integration of the LRT with their poor bus service. They have an LRT, as does Dallas. That's about it. Density or sprawl are part of the drivers for transit. It also includes integration, frequency...

    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Agreed. Brampton City Council, and presumably the people who elected these Councilors, believe these alternate routes will be best for the future of their community. Shuttling transit users around the downtown area is the idea. It is beyond crazy!
