Walked based this weekend. I hadn't previously heard of this building. Why doesn't/isn't the city able to enforce the 750sq2 meter floor plate rule here. This is going to be such a monstrous building.

I thought I'd copy the discussion in the last article about this project to the forum. Looks like UT is considering removing a comment critical of their reporting since the comment is under moderator review. Full Metal Junkie • 4 days ago (Under moderator review) I don't mean to post the usual...

I they desperately need to do something. I have no Apple products but I did go with a friend to get there battery changed yesterday at the Eaton's Center. What chaos it was in there. The person organizing the service was actually yelling things like, 'everyone that hasn't seen me on this side of...

I see in the last picture posted that a concrete barrier has been added to the ramp going into the pit. Ironically I had just written a post saying a ramp such as this at a mine isn't allowed without a berm.

If this isn't the construction industries definition of unsupported lose ground I have no idea what would be. Every mine I've been in would not need any wire mesh based on constructions definition than. In a mine basically every rock wall 2.0m above the ground needs to be bolted and screened...

Wow, standing below an unsupported rock wall with lose boulders 10 feet above their head would be completely disallowed in the mining industry. Do that everyday and you'd be guaranteed a LTI eventually. All they need to do to remediate the hazard is drap a curtain over the rock wall from the...

Why would they lay fill or aggregate when they are about to drill holes for the columns? Thoughts?

That's absolutely not the case. Having 20 dump trucks arrive at once is poor management. There are countless dispatch software packages out there that could manage the departure and arrival of trucks on site. This is entirely lack of effort. It would also save the construction company money to boot.

I see, I guess this condo has been on the books for a long time.

This tower doesn't seem to abid by the 12.5 / 25m setback to the west. Does anyone undetstand why this is?

    Toronto Sugar Wharf Condominiums (Phase 1) | 231m | 70s | Menkes | a—A

When a news story is effectively a poorly vailed advert and is seen as a positive 'change of pace' I start to understand the fake news thing. Not that this condo development is a major story but that article is fake news, misleading, bias and completely inconistent with the principles of...

    Toronto Sugar Wharf Condominiums (Phase 1) | 231m | 70s | Menkes | a—A

This 'news story' basically reads like a paid advert for Menkes. That's the Post for you. The credit for the amenities, daycare, etc should go to the city/province as these 'ammendities' are concesious from Menkes point of view. Developers have to add many of these features because the OMB won't...

I hope you mean that as a sarcastic joke? Otherwise, they would risk completely destroying their reputation if their were roamers the developer orchestrated this. Getting construction financing, permitting and any type of support from stakeholders nearly impossible. No one would touch Mizrah...

Maybe this type of thing will eventually cause it to be torn down as the complexity/cost of maintaining will be so high it's not worth keeping.

Does someone know with some certainty how deep this excavation will be.

Actually many pieces of very large equipment, much bigger than this crane (see below), are electrically driven. I suspect cranes aren't electrically powered because the cost/difficultly of setting up the electrical infrastructure. Anyway, my point is don't be so condescending. Assuming this...

I'd also like to note the complete absense of thought in regard to these balconies. No one will ever use these.

Really? Can you post your source for this? Don't banks rarely give up their prime corner locations, especially in such an old stately building

Have you ever riode a streetcar downtown? Try Spadina during rush hour! As for your -10 argument I have to agree it will be miserable but the line will cost over half a billion dollars! That's $20,000 per future resident $600,000,000 / 30,000 = $20k so,,, wear a warmer coat?! Maybe be you want...

Sounds about right. I doubt riding that same distance with a streetcar on Queen's Quay west the same distance will be much faster than 15min once you factor in the wait and the delays at the Union station turn around. Streetcars are gruelingly slow.
