    Hudson's Bay Company

Welcome to the joys of Private Equity. They don't care about any of these businesses succeeding, they just will wring every penny out of them and leave them for dead. These are not people with good intentions. Sadly, Neiman Marcus is just the next casualty of the PE firm that has effectively...

When I last visited Downtown Vancouver, I noticed they use material like this for most sidewalks and it does look way better. The only issue I found was it was really annoying to pull a suitcase over due to how bumpy it is, but unless you're doing that all the time, it's fine.

The TYSSE opened in mid-December 2017, so who knows. Obviously it didn't have a surface section, so not quite the same thing, but it's not unprecedented for a December opening to happen. I think if they can open it in December, they will, just to say they opened in 2024.

In a lot of ways the Agency model at the city creates these disconnects. TTC, Hydro, CreateTO, TPL, Toronto Zoo, etc are all Agencies outside of the regular civil service, and there is no structure to make everything work together. Which is why Hydro are always tearing up recently built...

Toronto Hydro not ruin every new pedestrian space challenge: IMPOSSIBLE. Honestly, how does this constantly happen?

Honestly, that would be a pretty great use for the site, and one of the better options in terms of having any chance of restoring the existing building.

I guess the one positive here is we avoided the situation where the OL's Flemingdon Park Station is closer to the Science Centre than Science Centre Station is.

HBC steadily dying is sad but I'm not surprised. My local The Bay store growing up was in Kingston, which based on what my parents have told me, is still almost exactly the same store it was in the mid 1980s. I think they painted the doors a decade ago and that's the biggest change the store has...

Regarding the TorStar building: Can't say I'm surprised. It's an older office building, plus it's outside the financial district, and far from the subway. It's not exactly an ideal office location with the current lack of demand. Consider that 11 Bay, just a block away is effectively cancelled...

    Ontario Science Centre

Not that it means much given how expropriation-happy this government is, but it is worth noting the land the Science Centre is on belongs to the City and the TRCA. The province only leases it, with the lease saying it's to be used for a Science Centre. So either any redevelopment requires either...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Yeah exactly, I totally agree. The West part is critical for both of those reasons. Without explaining where the trains are going to be stored if you don't build the West extension (either first, at the same time, or at all), seems like a pretty big omission (and also an important thing for...

    Ontario Science Centre

True, but it's a government building, if part of the roof did suddenly collapse, someone was injured/killed, and it was found they knew about the condition of the roof and had kept the building open, it would be a massive scandal. Simplest reason why it was immediately closed, avoiding any...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

The question about extending East vs West first is totally pointless until MX says where the train yard is going to go. Are they just going to run trains all the way around Line 1 from an expanded Wilson? Or from Davisville? Is there a new Eastern MSF? If so, where? The Western leg is easy, you...

    Toronto Ontario Line: Exhibition Station | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | HDR

The trains themselves. They need to replace the steps at the doors with ones that can adjust to both heights (with level boarding the step fills the gap between the train and the platform). To my knowledge, they haven't done this upgrade to enough (or maybe even any yet) of the bilevel cars. So...

Toronto Toronto Island Park Master Plan | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto

Thank god for the water taxis, although I'm sure the lines for those will be brutal as well. Especially on the way home from Hanlans' in the evening given they've cut half of the ferry trips there after 6.

    Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

From my understanding, on the OL, the stations are going to begin construction prior to the TBMs making the tunnel, as opposed to building them after the tunnel is finished like was done on Line 5. More like the way Vancouver is building the Broadway Subway (where the TBMs get pushed through the...

    Simons

The location in Ottawa has an in-house cafe! So hopefully we get the same here. I could see them using the windows on the 3rd floor that look into the main mall galleria for that space.

    Simons

With Simons, the label "department store" always feels a bit wrong because no other department store that I can think of is so heavily based around private label items. It's technically correct, but the impression of a department store most people think of doesn't fit here, if that makes sense...

    Toronto Eaton Centre

Some of the articles have mentioned a hallway running through the centre of the bottom floor of the former Nordstrom space, so presumably Nike will be on the West side, with Eataly and Simons on the East side of that hallway. So you won't be walking through a store to go from the north entrance...
