Wild that BMW Toronto's flagship building is getting torn down soon.

You know, I had also thought of the building as new, but apparently it was a renovation of a former admin building from the soap factory (source). Below is the Lever Brothers Technical Centre from the mid-1960s, which was transformed into the BMW dealership around 2004 (source). So maybe the service life was a little longer than 20 years?

I remember when it went up about 20 years ago!

I guess everything is disposable these days, but man, so wild that a perfectly good, modern building is just getting demolished.

Yeah, yeah, I know why it has to go, I'm not a dummy, and of course this is for the greater good yada yada....

I'm just marvelling at the fact that all of a sudden it will be gone and I remember when it first opened!

What is going in its place, does anyone know? It is not in OL/L3 path from my understanding

Flood protection landforms, necessary to develop lands south of Eastern (like the Broadview extension and the Unilever site):

Aw man, that feels particularly brutal.

What are they tearing your building down for? Are they putting something new and amazing in its place?

Nah, it's just going to be a flood plain.

😄

As someone who used to manage a condo nearby at King and River I can tell you right now it is needed.

Whenever you have heavy rain, there is a good chance that area will fill up with water. The idea of putting Condos there seemed like a good idea in theory but in practice not so much.

It was never designed to handle all those buildings and heavy rain. Bayview and Front actually has barricades which come down during heavy rain which goes to show why a new flood plain is needed in the area.

If we're talking about these big gross things, I've never, ever, ever, ever seen them used and I travel up and down this road daily. Never once used. Even during the huge floods a couple years ago, they never close them!!! They just put cop cars at the top of the road. Total and complete boondogle! :)

These.

They are in theory supposed to close during floods but if I recall they have failed to activate recently.

Sorry if this has been asked & answered before...why is the footprint for Sammon EEB much larger than the Bain EEB? Is it due to the short turn to be built under Sammon?
