The main entrance on Danforth Ave and secondary entrance on what appears to be a pedestrianized Lipton Ave seems like just one building. How exactly is it defined as a secondary entrance if both doors appear to use the same vertical circulation and are just two sides of a larger than normal entrance building?

There isn't much we can do to influence the pace of construction, it will be what it is.

What can be influenced is being transparent now, so expectations remain reasonable.

I don't want to see us going through the same two years of pain from 2033 onwards that we just went through with Crosstown. "When will it open? What's taking so long?"

Set transparent expectations now, and follow up with periodic updates that are honest and complete.

Transparency and incompetence don't work well together. If you are transparent, it invites unwelcome questions that make your incompetence more blatant and unacceptable.

That appears to be the case. They aren't talking about the existing secondary entrance - or even the existing main entrance! The secondary entrance image is looking south - adding the direction would help. It is odd that that "secondary entrance looking south" is called a secondary entrance, when the other view of it is called Main entrance building alternate view!

This looks so..... suburban. In a very urban area. Was it not possible to integrate some retail or housing?
Well at least they have allowed for building over top of it. Would that include future replacement of the drab entrance building?

I found out recently that unlike the Yonge and Bloor-Danforth subways which created the Leslie Spit and filled in Trinity Bellwoods Park's ravine, the Ontario Line's spoil will be distributed to construction projects across the country and beyond. I would have liked it to fill out Leslie Spit a bit more and possibly extend it out into the lake but there are different environmental considerations than there were in the 50s.
That seems like a broad generic answer on where the fill might go? They just don't have an idea yet and will see who needs it?

Meanwhile, Doug Ford is saying today about infilling part of Lake Ontario for a new convention centre at Exhibition.

"I wouldn't call it an island but we may look at putting fill in until we can put a convention centre."

"That's [enviornmental] what would happen first, no different than everything else, the enviornmental process would move forward. But, we have a tremendous amount of fill right now and we need to expand the land."

Recent construction projects have just sold the fill on the open market from my understanding (or rather, purchased dump locations to who will take it for the least amount of money).

The province would probably like to be able to put it somewhere for free as other users typically charge to accept it, even for clean fill. The province's highway plans will probably need some fill, depending on how much cutting they need to do, so that may take some depending on exact timing.. but generally you want to be able to find somewhere that will take it for free (i.e. another provincial project) that is close to the excavation site as transportation costs are equally expensive to dumping costs.

Dirt is big business. I'm not surprised the province is trying to find somewhere to dump it.

If the Province can dump Ontario Line fill right off Ontario Place, it would be free dumping and it would be remarkably close to the excavation site (Exhibition) which means lots of $$ savings. you could probably run the entire operation with a handful of dump trucks running loops from Exhibition to the dump site.

I spoke too soon.

I'm struggling to think how anywhere they put fill would be conveniently located to transit, including the Ontario Line - unless they want to extend it in the west to under Humber Bay.

A huge plus of the current convention centre is how well integrated it is into downtown, surrounded by the PATH, Union Station, tons of food courts, hotels etc. You see attendees all around the area. Very few have rented cars ... so walkability is a must.

This seems like a downgrade. If he wants a bigger building - how about the Science Centre. Or closer to transit.

Why don’t they do something productive and protect the islands from flooding or connect Leslie street spit to the islands?? A new island when the actual islands are at risk is really a stupid idea that only Doug could come up with. Would be cool to extend Leslie St Spit to the islands IMHO…

I went skiing at Dagmar a few weeks ago, and on the drive up, we saw a constant stream of dump trucks driving south. My friend joked that they might be building a new ski hill. Sure enough, we got to the top of the lift, and they are building a new ski hill. There was a constant parade of dump trucks dropping off dirt, which a bulldozer was rearranging.

Maybe we could use the Ontario line to create a huge ski resort in Milton, with hills as high as Blue Mountain. And then just renovate the current convention centre, which is in an ideal location.

The proposed Mapleview and Essa subdivision in Barrie had a sign outside of it at some point offering to buy fill, since most of the land there is low-lying around the creek. While the scale here is different, I can't imagine there aren't any other proposals in the GTA that would not only take the fill but use it to enable more development. Lakeview Village in Mississauga might be a good shout.

On a personal note, my favourite Greek restaurant/hangout - Tzatziki at 873 Pape at the corner of Aldwych - has closed and moved to a new location because of this. Thanks a lot Metrolinx! Lol.. Soon to follow, the adjacent Macchiato Cafe. Both had a lovely patio along Aldwych - to be replaced by a park from the looks of the renders.
