Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

You may be thinking of "Union Station 2031 and Related Planning Studies" a Metrolinx Board presentation from 2011-11-23. It started with 6 initial options {Improve TTC/GO integration at Bloor/Dundas West & Danforth/Main; Add satellite stations @ Liberty, Bathurst, Cherry; North Toronto Sub with 4 stations; U-shaped downtown relief subway from Dundas West to Pape; GO Train tunnel under Queen St or King St; All Lakeshore GO trains underground between Exhibition and East Harbour} other ideas were added - a J-shaped relief subway and all Kitchener & Milton GO trains stopping at Bathurst or the Lakeshore tunnel going up under Osgoode & Queen stations. The following 2 options were investigated further.

Exhibition station footings are happening on the North side and looks like where the new GO platform is being built.

The Finch opening had me depressed and uninterested in transit development. Line 5 being surprisingly good and quite transformational has me hyped again. Very much looking forward to watching this progress. The next few years should be fun with the impacts becoming very visible; stations being built up, don valley and don river bridges, etc..

Exhibition Station is about to be a multi-modal paradise, especially with the airport a stone's throw away. Could be a smaller version of Amsterdam-Schiphol if we execute correctly, allowing intermodal transfer between streetcar, subway, regional rail, buses, cycle roads, short haul air travel, and maybe some VIA activity? Would LOVE to see a secondary CBD crop up around this node, even moreso than the amount of office space currently at play in Liberty Village.

Plans for the Scarborough Subway extension and Scarborough Busway keep changing. I'm finding it hard to keep up! There is not much activity happening on the subway extension and busway threads, so I'll ask some questions here, because they affect OL too.

First question: "Wither Line 3?"
Originally, the Line 3 designation was to be retired. Then it was reassigned to the Ontario Line, and Wikipedia still says OL will be Line 3. (And so does the title of this UT thread!)
Then the TTC decided to call the busway Line 3 as well, since it was only supposed to be used until 2030, the original opening target date for the Scarborough Subway extension to Bloor / Danforth, and also for OL.
As I understand it, the target date of 2030 for the subway extension has been rescinded, and currently there is no target date for it.
Now it has been announced the busway will be permenant as a local route to run alongside Scarborough Subway after the latter opens.
Currently, the TTC's page for the busway still calls it line 3, and as far as I can tell, they do not have a page about OL.
Metrolinx does have a page for OL, but they do not mention a line number.
So... there there is no longer a plan to call OL Line 3, and no new number has been assigned?
Have I got anything wrong here?

Second question: "Wither Lawrence East Station?"
The original plan was to reuse the Lawrence East Station name as a new station on the Scarborough Subway extension. But now they are reopening the old station under its old name, according to TTC's website. I doubt both stations will have the same name, but since the TTC's site shows the old name on the busway map, to open in September, it suggests that name has been firmly decided, so the subway extension station will need to be assigned a new name. But nobody's saying anything about that. Any ideas?

Not surprised at all. On the plus side, this means there shouldn't be a train shortage when the new cars start arriving in 2030 that'll necessitate keeping the old ones longer than they should.
