Toronto Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown West Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Eglinton West LRT Airport Extension (Renforth to YYZ ~4.7 km)
Nope not a chance.

That extension will need to wait on Pearson airport planners who do not appear ready to built a transit hub anytime soon.

Finch west extention to woodbine go will be the next lrt expansion and then whenever the airport is ready both eglinton and finch to the airport will be built but that is very far into the future no doubt.

I suspect ford will be voted out before any of the above is completed so its entirely possible that whoever succeeds him will have a different mandate.

Ford will announce whatever will win favour of voters, not what will actually be pursued with any urgency. One year on, GO 2.0 is still no more than ambitious ideas scrawled on a napkin. His announced investments in service improvements to London were also axed.

It's more likely that the next batch of projects announced by the Ford Government are:
  • Ontario Line North Extension (Eglinton to Steeles ~10.6 km)
  • Sheppard East Extension (Don Mills to McCowan / STC ~7.4 km)
  • Sheppard West Extension (Yonge to Sheppard West ~4.4 km)
  • Eglinton West LRT Airport Extension (Renforth to YYZ ~4.7 km)
27 km of new rapid transit in critically close ridings within Toronto like Don Valley North, Don Valley East, Scarborough Centre, Scarborough-Agincourt, Willowdale & York Centre. The Eglinton West LRT Airport Extension is just logical and inevitable as well. I don't see this government backing LRT's or LRT extensions, but we'll see. Anything is possible.
The Ontario Line needs to be extended to Sheppard for sure and Shepard east to STC 💯

How is he going to extended Eglinton West to the Airport, without the airport approving or being involved??

He could try and get the federal Minister of Transport to crack the whip.

He could also temporarily have the LRT street-run to the existing vehicle loop at Viscount Station. This would be cheaper than any alternative, and would minimally affect Pearson's long-term planning.

It needs to be to Steeles to help to take pressure off Line 1 some what.. Going to Sheppard will not help Line 4 but will help Finch a lot more.

Good question. Admittedly I know less than nothing and of the four I listed this might be the most difficult to actually green light. I just feel that it’s a project that buys a lot of political clout that almost everyone wants to happen.

@duty free It's funny because I always though Sheppard was supposed to be part of the last batch but they've been really slow walking it.
Yeah it’s because they’ll most likely wait until the next election to announce them. Those extensions run through some of the most important ridings. I just try to look at it from their perspective. What major projects buy the most votes in key ridings? What info has leaked that gives us an idea of what is going to happen next?

After the experience on Eglinton, I'm not sure how much mileage there is out of buying votes by building surface transit.

The whole reason why it doesn't currently go to the airport is because the airport isn't currently interested with in more rapid transit connection.
And have scraped plans for a transit hub.

Amsterdam, Berlin, Frankfurt, Zurich,, Hamburg are a few airports where intercity trains stations are underground. These are only a few been to that has train service to them as mainline service.. Stockholm is an LRT line only as well Edinburgh and Denver. . Rome airport is some 35 minutes away by trains to Rome main station.

There are a lot of airports in Europe let alone NA that has no rail to them at all and require transit buses or charter buses running from the train station to the airport.
