The American public *at large*. However, keep in mind that it's the land of the school shooting and the mass killing. Mass rejection might not prevent the act of a deranged individual--or, a Waco-type cult of deranged individuals who may be using said deranged individual to pursue a particular goal.

I came across one social media post by a wife-and-six-kids guy praising Trump for what "liberals" labelled fascist, dictatorial, etc powers. Further down his feed was an "End Times timeline" post.

He's still polling at 39% approval (CNN poll quoted in this Mother Jones article). It's insane that so many are happy with the guy. I guess they are watching Fox and other alternative news sites that paint things "differently".

Basically, global rejection and even retaliation isn't going to faze what is, in effect, a massive suicidal death cult--indeed, it might even fuel it.

Give a bunch of ugly, stupid, tasteless redneck yokels and Jesus freaks the nuclear codes, and they'll gladly blow up the planet if it means killing all those who call them ugly, stupid, tasteless redneck yokels and Jesus freaks--and all the more so with the confidence that they're going to a vomit-inducing AI-slop heaven where they can giggle and frolic like eternal toddlers under the aegis of God and there'll be nobody left to call them ugly, stupid, tasteless redneck yokels and Jesus freaks, for all of *those* will be dead and burnt to a crisp, fated to be among the "unchosen".

(And not a few of those end-of-the-world accelerationists might be among the ICE troops, of course.)

If you are looking at the glass 2/3rd's empty that not really a good number. It's actually terrible in fact...

Sure 39% will could get you a majority in this country. Even 29% could give you a massive majority in the UK. But in the USA with only 2 parties that matter, the Presidency would be awarded to the Dems at a whopping 60% if an election was held today...they could almost have every state at that point. And this is with contenders that are not all that great, to put it mildly.

However, here's a subtle point: maybe it isn't just about money. In fact, and Elon Musk's promise of AI-era "universal high income" leads me to such thinking: maybe what said Americans would *most* covet is *not needing* money. Where the riches are plentiful and abundant and just pouring in and available to everybody, and one doesn't have to lift a finger to "earn anything".

It's like being the combination of a zillionaire's kid, and being in, well, heaven, or the Paradise that follows the Rapture, where God is that zillionaire daddy figure who provides everything.

Indeed, when such people win the Powerball lottery, they live that "not needing money" existence with the seemingly infinite supply of money they have--until they run out; and y'know, a fool and his money, etc etc.

This does not line up with how sensitive Americans are to economic indicators when voting. See the meme about gas prices. And in the last election, it was famously the price of eggs.

It does line up with the subtlety of my point. That is, they're sensitive to economic indicators because they *need* money. However, once they don't need money, they can have all the eggs and all the gas they want--for free! Or where spending money is no problem because in a Musk-ian universe, they're all zillionaires, they can have everything they want. And once the Rapture happens, they'll be in a Paradise where everything is abundant, and perfectly free for all (well, all of those who are Chosen) to enjoy and delight in...

Problem with economic indicators is that I think USA GDP has grown at a rate of about 3% last year, while no other G7 country did half that.

I’m not convinced that viewing him unfavourably actually translates into votes for Democrats. For many Americans, no matter how unpopular a candidate may be, checking a “D” is simply a non-starter — so while it’s not bad news for Democrats, it may not be quite as good as some are making it out to be.

They also care big time about immigration, as we have seen. The bully tactics aren't going over well, but there are still a large number of people who just want all those "undesirables" tossed out. I spend a lot of time in the US (or did until this year), and that's what I hear discussed more than the price of eggs.

Right, except, that much of that growth has been driven by debt-financed construction of Data Centres.

If you took that out, Real GDP growth last year wasn't much better than 0.1%.

If you look at long-term unemployment statistics, those who have been unemployed six months or longer, the rate in the U.S. is up substantially with about 1.9M in that category compared with 1.1M at its low in 2023.

That number is the highest its been since 2017.

Overall unemployment is also up from ~3.5% in 2023 to over 4% in 2025, still low, but bad trendline.

Real wage growth (Median Household Income) was at a near stand still last year, and is only now at the level it was in 2020 (in absolute dollars), suggesting a real erosion of spending room.

Labour Force Participation is also well off from a high of ~67% at the turn of the century to only 62.4% today. For comparison, Canada is at 65.4%

Taken together, along with the government induced spike in insurance premiums that kicked in on January 1st..... there are bound to be some unhappy people out there.

...if not checking "D" but don't want to vote for the current "R" either would also likely favour the Democrats.

But I agree, how people will vote in the end and who will turn up to vote is speculation at this point. And I am not claiming otherwise outside of what we know.
