GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

The service agreements are welcome, the agreement with CN is indeed a very big deal. Now let’s hear the detailed plan and construction schedule.
The tipping point will be when counter peak trains are announced.

Agreed.

Lets see what other tidbits are in the article... brought to us by @LNahid2000 (who may not post as often as he used to but still to great effect)

The ultimate service goal isn't a surprise, and actually silent on how many trains will reach Mt.Pleasant. My recollection being the one-time commitment was 15M to Bramalea, 30M to Mt. Pleasant and hourly to K-W.

Also, no mention of further speed improvements.

On specific infra, we have 40km of new track (how does that match previous plans?) but I don't see any flyunder.......

Also happy to see that the one Kitchener Line train that stopped at every stop except Kitchener is finally being extended to… Kitchener… if you want to imagine the confusion that caused every night.
As someone who rode that specific train a few times it wasn’t a big deal. They were very clear on the announcements that it was stopping in Guelph. As far as I remember no one came up to the CSA in tears complaining.

Also this is great news! And judging by the Heritiage Road construction I hope they move forward with that rail crossover asap.

This is a pretty big deal: https://www.ctvnews.ca/kitchener/article/metrolinx-extending-weekend-go-trains-to-kitchener/

Starting on Nov. 23, four existing weekend trips that had previously stopped at Mount Pleasant GO will now continue on to Kitchener GO.

Meanwhile, a weekday trip that had been stopping at Guelph Central GO will carry on to Kitchener GO.

Metrolinx is also adding 18 new weekend trips between Bramalea GO and Union Station, two new weekday trips between Bramalea and Union Station, and two existing weekday trips will be extended from Malton GO to Bramalea GO.

Okay...I gotta ask, after how they botched the announcement of Niagara service expansion...

Does "four existing weekend trips that had previously stopped at Mount Pleasant GO will now continue on to Kitchener GO" mean four westbound trips that stopped at Mt Pleasant are getting extended, with four more trips returning eastbound? Or is it 2 WB + 2 EB = 4?

Also, no mention of further speed improvements.

Wasn't there a post in the construction thread of a capital plan that included a new mainline platform for Georgetown GO? I've griped about that piece's deferral for years. The re-alignment of the switch at Silver Junction and expansion of the easterly run-up single-handedly made a great improvement to run time, but continuing to force trains to/from Kitchener to grind through the side track continues to weigh down travel time.

Good questions.

No answers just yet.

The actual news release will drop shortly after the presser starts which is 10am, on paper, though, as I've noted in the past, this government rarely starts pressers on time.

Any mention of timeline? This government loves announcements

I haven't watched the actual press conference.............I can rarely stand such things, and really, I can just wait on @Allandale25 to do that for us........ :p

Here's the feed for the press conference if anyone wishes to put themselves through that:

I would always assume 2+2 unless it specified round trips. Also four trips sounds more impressive than two round trips.

The biggest Kitchener line increase since 2023 and possibly the biggest train service increase of the year, this is all around incredible to finally see. One could see this as maybe a coincide for Mount Dennis and the Crosstown as a whole hopefully opening by then?

watching now, key points.
- system wide 109% recovery of precovid ridership apperently
- kw ridership hit 154% of precovid in september
- cn agreement is to purchase land for tracks
- 40km of twin tracks
- no timeline due to the fact that the construction contracts havent went out yet and probably wont for quite some time knowing MX.
- media followed up for timeline on the 2wad 7days a week and dodged again
- possible incremental increase in service even during construction.

As if by magic, work seems to be picking up on the Strachan - Parkdale - Bloor portion of the Kitchener line
- telecom work at Parkdale
- grading and sound walls where the Barrie line diverges, hinting at double track on that line
- new and relocated “green zone” jersey barriers to protect work where the fourth track will be built south of Bloor (the former barriers south of Bloor are gone, meaning that stretch is ready for track laying
- Work reaumed on the Randolph underpass
- lots of grading and new temporary access roads across the CPKC Mactier Sub at the St Clair station site
- Continued major earthmoving at Resources Road
- track components hinting at installing the switch between the new track and the CP interchange at Black Creek
- a lot of preliminary grading and civil work at the Woodbine station site

If ML wanted to do this right, they would divulge their scope statement and some preliminary high level order of activity projections. I doubt they will. But this is all very encouraging that things are in motion and not just a paper plan or paper thin political promise.
