The extra lane on Eglinton would really be to enable the second left turn lane off the Allen - which would be a 50% capacity increase for SB Allen - really substantial. It's worth a marginally longer crossing distance.

Everden and Strathearn should also have their intersections removed from Eglinton, IMO, to reduce conflicts. Either put a frontage road through Ben Nobleman park (offsetting park loss with a few expropriations to the south) or just dead-end them.

This idea I'm open to; however, it comes with challenges. Closing two consecutive access points to/from Eglnton means redistributing that traffic on to to other roads. But Winette and Winona are already seriously congested at times, and there is pressure on/from the local Councillor to address that.

There are solutions. But to my eye, they look pretty expensive.

1) Extend Lanark Avenue eastwards to Flanders creating off-Eglinton East-West capacity.

2) Extend Flanders south to Ava Rd. to handle some of the resulting N-S diversion.

By my math, the above requires the taking of 20 houses/lots at a probable cost of 40M+; the cost of construction, depending on utility costs, another 15M+ Add to that 2.5M for the original closures suggested and adding them to the park (that's very conservative)

Total costs, at least 57.5M, and it could run upwards of 100M

Now, if a traffic study showed the road network could support the diversions w/o the extended roads, great, but I'm leery.

Is the south entrances to Cedarvale Station open? Okay, Line 5 is still closed, but they still could have barriers set up for passengers to get to Line 1 from the new south entrances.

They've said repeatedly that they won't open up the south entrance until Line 5 is operating.

IMO the only way to help alleviate the congestion on Eglinton, specifically around the intersection of Eglinton and Allen is to create a way for both surface level pedestrians and transit users to navigate through this intersection underground or above ground not impeding the flow of traffic wanting to go Northbound on the Allen. This would increase the amount of cars that can get onto the Allen and ease the gridlock in this area. I know EglintoTOday is looking at options on how to ease congestion in this area but honestly a lot of it might be band aid solutions.

They did build entrances on the north side of Eglinton outside of the Allen ramps, which would allow this, including pedestrians who want to walk through.

I've tried to figure out how those new entrances will connect to the Eglinton West Line 1 platforms. On the northbound platform you can currently see a closed off tunnel entrance which I assume will connect to the line 5 station and those surface exits eventually.

I'm not sure how you'd get to the southound platform. I guess up and back down again. That's a pain. It would have been nice to have the tunnel bring people to the mezzanine level that has staircases to both NB and SB platforms, but I think you'd run into accessibility issues.

The design of the lower concourse level is symmetrical. There's closed off walkway entrance in the same place on the Southbound Line 1 platform as on the Northbound Line 1 platform.

If RSD is supposed to simulate the real thing, why wouldn't the fire department treat it as any other incident and post an alert for it?

On the other hand, has there been any official confirmation that RSD started last week?

If toronto sun is to be believed....

As of thurs, no.

Furthermore, I think we have enough insiders who would post the notice or at least mention RSD has officially begin (similar to what happened with finch).

Imo the silence is telling

I would simply take that incident as an indication that the station’s fire alarm system is commissioned and in service (as it should be, by now) , and like fire alarm systems everywhere, there are sometimes false activations.
This is just life imitating an RSD.

For what it's worth, they were stopping at Lebovic earlier.

They had announcements on the platform telling people the car wasn't in service and not to board.

I do believe they were testing.

The announcements have been going on for weeks at least. Whether they have been tweaked at all from previous versions, I can't say.

Yeah, the announcements are neither new nor consistent. Had a few pass me last week when I was close enough to a station that I should have heard something, but nothing. And I was hearing them regularly for the last few months. So who knows
