I'm in the "Like" camp, as I have written before. For one thing, setbacks are almost always a welcome feature on a skyscraper, and 11YV is quite visually compelling besides. I think skycandy's pic from post 1,239 captures the building at its best. SkylineHorizons's pic (bottom) also makes a...
I don't know how this "spire" is regarded as integral to the building's design. At best, it's a glorified antenna on a tripod, impaling a box of some sort. A real spire is what's on the Chrysler Building.
It's farcical that the city would pay so much for builds that should cost a tenth of that. 600 Grand for a micro-unit is astronomical. Putting aside the preposterous cost (lobbyist palm-greasing corruption?) for a moment, any attempted solution for homelessness must include on-site...
The problem for me is, from the island vantage, as seen in Mihairokov's shot above, it's too pronounced. I think we need a few more in this height range near the lakeshore to balance things out.:D
I really do hope to begin to see some progress on this front. There's always talk, and has been for decades, but not enough action. Shelters are inadequate temporary fixes for homelessness. I don't pretend to have a foolproof solution, but modular housing sounds promising. An efficiency unit...
If only the tallest were Phase 1 and started right away, to circumvent a lull in skyscraper construction.
I think "perfunctory" is harsh. These towers are more inspired and intricate than most Toronto proposals, and there's a certain grandeur to the three of them standing tall together. The...
Likely not. I have written government officials multiple times over the decades, and one seldom receives the basic common courtesy of even a form response. When David Miller was in office, I wrote him a small handful of times, about what I don't recall, and I never failed to hear back from an...
Nothing exciting here. Just a Notice of Public Meeting to Amend Official Plan and Zoning By-Law: https://secure.toronto.ca/nm/api/individual/notice/7029.do
Since this is all-rental, perhaps it can get going with relative speed. I like the design, apart from the ridiculous "Torontoism" of the heritage century homes at the base. Contrarily, maybe this bizarre style of heritage retention will become a kind of quirky, oddball practice charmingly...
