This line uses low floor Citadis LRVs because that is what Metrolinx bought in case the low floor Flexities would not be delivered in time for the Eglinton line opening. With all LRVs delivered for Eglinton, Metrolinx has Citadis LRVs they paid for that need to be used somewhere.
People often forget or don’t know that the main reason was emergency services were pretty much paralyzed. If I recall correctly, there was at least one death attributed to a delay in emergency services getting to them.
I dunno. I mean I could be wrong because that was just something I’ve heard in passing.
I’m not sure if they still do that. I’ve sat in the alcoves numerous times waiting for a GO train or family and have never been told to leave. I think there is one exclusive TD branded one, though.
I can’t speak for baggage restrictions. But for controlling the flow of people to the platforms, I heard that, had to do with how narrow they can get in some places. But again, that’s just something I’ve heard.
Also I just want to let people know: you don’t actually have to line up. You can...
I’ve heard it’s more to do with restrictions of the infrastructure at these major stations. If Alto has a completely new station, it would reason a lot of these problems would be eliminated.
The vehicles for Eglinton and Finch were part of an agreement with Bombardier for the legacy streetcar vehicles, which are 100% low floor. They are 100% low floor because that was the preference/recommendation from ACAT.
This seems to be only at major stations like Union or Centrale. When I get on at Guildwood, I just show up, go to the platform, get on, and then show them my ticket once.
Edit to add:
There is also no bag weighing. Last time there wasn’t even any staff at the station.
Render looks like they are still going with semi-enclosed shelters with openings around where the doors line up plus wiggle room. The Eglinton and Finch line shelters should have been designed this way. Though the last minute Citadis panic buy might have cocked up their plan for a standard...
Just want to highlight this (and maybe add to the confusion), since I just noticed this project map from 2023 appears to consider the Toronto Rocket and Vancouver SkyTrain Metropolis projects.
If you take the UP Express, you know that’s a lie.
Granted it’s harder in the rail corridor, but it looks likes it’s only been cleaned once in the past 10 or 11 years.
