Billy Bishop Airport Expansion?

With a basically conservative PM, maybe we'll finally get jets at YTZ.
You would need the Toronto Port Authority, Transport Canada, and Toronto City Council to all agree to reopen the Tripartite Agreement for this to happen. And as far as I know of, there is no appetite at City Hall to reopen this debate anytime soon.

If the province and feds are on board, the city doesn't matter. Ford can simply direct the city to approve the changes. And legislate something if they don't.

An election is coming up, and the current Mayor has backtracked on her waterfront promises before to allow the OPC to push through what they want.

In spite of all the limitations facing operations at YTZ, it is still Canada’s 10th busiest airport with 2M+ passengers per year. I believe that speaks to its continued usefulness, and I can’t imagine that demand is necessarily going to just disappear once Alto is up and running. It is also one of our few airports in this country that is accessible by rail transit. I think it is probably wise to make the most of the airport infrastructure we already have, especially now that the Pickering Airport is dead, and allow it to expand so jets can use the airport.

May not be a bad thing for the economy...
I’d rather we close YTO (like was done to Meigs Field), convert the island to parkland and build a large bespoke airport out in the lake with rail links to the mainland, like Japan’s Kansai International Airport below.

We are Canadians. We are not capable of what the Japanese are lol

One of the reasons we can do Deep Lake cooling is the lake gets deep very quickly.

The water 5km offshore that part of Japan was only 18m, albeit a lot of soft mud that's still compressing [island is sinking]; 5km offshore downtown Toronto is closer to 230m.

Premier of Toronto 4 Life will get what he wants.

Have you met Doug Ford? He'll dissolve City Council and the Mayor's office if our city has the temerity to govern ourselves.

and accessible by biking... and walking a few minutes if you live closer to Bathurst/Lakeshore. With Ontario Line around the corner, it's not that bad a walk from King/Bathurst if you are travelling alone (or take the Bathurst streetcar).

While we think we are severing the ties with the US and the US is threatening to remove border pre-clearance in Canada, this is happening:
