TTC: Other Items (catch all)

A proposal presented to the TTC board next week could give the transit agency the green light to enter into a 15-year contract with Vancouver-based ad agency Adtrackmedia.

The advertising company uses a system similar to a flip book — in parts of Vancouver’s SkyTrain system, 360 vertical LED lights were installed into the walls of the subway tunnel that, when viewed from a speeding train, create a video. The only catch: the trains need to run fast enough for the ads to run.

With Line 5 and Line 6 opening and freeing up more busses, I wonder if TTC would ever consider starting some ‘node/destinations’ based bus lines. E.g. the accessibility bus line 149 on Bloor from Old Mill to High Park. Could it be turned into a circular line connecting the various business neighbourhood in the area? Bloor West Village, Junction, and Stockyard.
Most lines in Toronto are designed north/south and eat/west lines requiring transfers.
We need more bus routes that connect nodes of populations/shopping/business directly.

That seems to be the idea with Community Bus. Though they are run with minibuses and have a very limited schedule.

The TTC recently launched a new Community Bus route in Scarborough that connects with Guildwood GO Station.

New display and announcement programming is rolling out on the TRs.
Notable changes:
- Full use of second display line to indicate transfers to other agencies or Subway/LRT lines (full name of the line is used as opposed to just Line #).
- Doors opening announcement happen twice, once when announcing next station and upon arrival.
- Doors opening text is in green along with the arrows which now flash instead of scrolling.
- Doors closing text is in red along with the arrows.
- Last station is referred to as the “Final station” as opposed to the “terminal station”
- TMU and Cedarvale stations now used.
