Nov 23-30

Long

Time has been tight the past 10 days as well this coming week that caused me to have a backlog for the corridor as well posting. Been able to find some time to do some shooting with me having seem the full corridor from end to end this weekend as very sections this past week driving.

As I stated in the past things are changing weekly, daily and hourly with some hourly this Sunday.

Photos will follow later that were shot from the 27-30 with other up on my site before then.

Brampton

Storm water, waterline and other utilities have been burying for the new turning lanes at Steeles south=east corner with more to be done. Crew working the area on Sunday.

Did not see any changes for rest of the corridor to Ray Lawson,

Stakes for the pouring the curb for the new guideway have been places for it with the string line still to be install. Drilling and placing of the rebar caisson for the OS poles support taking place. A small crew working in the guideway.

Had a quick look at the northbound lanes for the 407 bridge and cannot see why it still not open other than the ends of the guideway. The guideway expansion still needs to be done as well pouring of the concrete on both ends where the road starts.

Topflight

The guideway is staked to have the curb pour for it as well the base is ready to have concrete pour for it. Cord drilling for the OS caisson.

Work still taking place on Topflight for track replacement east of the switches with no work started on the saw cut areas.

Corridor

No change for the crossover area that is still not poured.

Crew working on the northbound track at the pad area south of Derry.

Excavator sitting in the southbound guideway and digging it up at Admiral. All the southbound rails have been removed from Admiral to Skyway now compared to a short section earlier this past week.

The hourly change took place from the time I drove by the Skyway intersection heading north that still needs forms removed the allow the gap area between the track and the road. Heading south I saw police light at Skyway and ended up parking to have a look. Crew were removing the tarps off the intersection and were going to start work on the gap to allow paving to take place on Monday or Tuesday. The intersection was scheduled to reopen on Dec 2nd.

Tarp over World Dr intersection and no idea if the base concrete has been poured to anchor the tracks in place. Topcoat of concrete is still needed if the tracks have been poured in place.

Finally have a close look at the Hwy 401 overpass with most od the track in place north of the Hwy 401 eastbound off ramp to south of the north expansion joint. There are more tracks to be installed from the expansion joint to the westbound off ramp.

Nothing new from the Hwy 401 to the elevated ramp area.

Lot more form EPS geofoam blocks on site now in different sizes. Sommerer form blocks have been place for the ramp.

Trackwork still nor completed from Sq One Dr to Robert Speck.

Trackwork from Robert Speck to Brunhamthorpe is now poured in place.

Trackwork still not completed from Burnhamthorpe to Mathew Gates.

Trackwork from Matthew Gates to Central Pkwy has been splice and ready for final alignment and to be pour in place.

Fairview intersection is seeing nightly work staring Dec 1 starting at 8:00 pm and no idea.

Hillcrest Intersection saw a major concrete pour last Saturday with crew placing rail and ties in the guideway Sunday. This is another hourly change as there was no one on site going south but police and crew on site heading north.

No change from Hillcrest to King St.

Major concrete pour taking place this Saturday for the guideway base at King St.

The substation has been installed on Dundas with no paving of the hydro vault area.

Having a close look at the Queensway area, I saw the track crew working on the northbound track for final positioning of it to allow formwork to be place on Monday. Concrete will be pour this week for the northbound track with the possibility of concrete been pour by the weekend for the fire station driveway. The driveway will be open the week of December 8. Once that is done the temporary fire station lane will be dug up to allow the completion of the guideway.

Looks like they are close to paving the area on the south-west corner where hydro work was bury.

No changes for the North service Rd.

Nothing new for the South Service Rd other than no police vehicle there compared to one sitting southbound in the new northbound lane with lights on.

South Service Rd to PC Station

Bell been on site this past week working on the wires for the southbound close lane.

This week finally saw the removal of some of the hydro poles with all removed south of Mineola to where the guideway will swing from the centre to the side with 6 more to be remove south of that swing area.

Two-three poles have been removed north of the Mineola intersection with the rest still need to be remove. Excavation for the new east sidewalk and the new northbound lane with a pedestrian sidewalk in the curb lane. Sadly, no signs up telling pedestrian that there is no pedestrian sidewalk at the Mineola corner and to use it they will have to walk in live traffic if they want to use it as the rest is torn up. There is a pay duty office parked there with flashers on and saying nothing to a few people that waled that area.

The lack of permits is being stated why some work hasn’t happen before now.

Asphalt sidewalk has been paved for the west sidewalk where the Mary Fix Creek sound barrier is to allow that area to be open at some point once they pour the guideway curb. Duct banks being installed in the centre of the guideway from Englewood to the swing area.

All the OS poles foundation are in place in the guideway from the swing area to the station but not cap.

Until this week, no east hydro poles have been removed.

No changes to the PC station entrance since some glazing was installed over a week ago.

I don’t know if the fabricator that did Derry Shelter is still doing the rest, but Orion is doing the erection now in place of the company crew, Lots of missing pieces and incomplete. Derry still the same as of January 2024.

It been stated all 27 LRV’s are now at the OMSF but the yard say no.

With the change or possible change for the loop along with the comment of the mayor, 2029-2030 is now becoming the opening date for the line and not surprised. With the amount of intersection work still to be done along with the trackwork replacement, 2028 was the new timeframe for the line to be open was becoming more the opening date than late 2027 I was using.

Does the 2029-2030 timeline include the loop? If so, that's not too bad - it's actually faster than I expected. If it's just for the first phase, then that's really disappointing

What's with the work on Hurontario between the separate ROW section?
That is the area where the elevated ramp is sloping toward Hurontario, where it will cross the southbound lanes to the centre section just south of where the traffic stops today. They are using EPS geofoam blocks where the transmission lines are and don't expect to see it completed until Q2 in 2026.

That is the real unknown question.

As I have noted in the past, the Burnhamorpe Rd intersection has to be rebuilt for the wye before the line opens, which will take 5-6 months to complete the work unless done on a 7/24 basis with a shorter timeframe. The original plan in 2019-23 was to see the wye built when it came time to do Burnhamorpe, but with the pushback by ML, it forced Mobilinx to work to the T of the contract, starting late 2023, that the wye disappeared because it wasn't in the contract, nor was ML willing to pick up the cost to do it.

Then, when will the loop be built, since it has a major effect on the type of service the line will see? There has been talk about this since day one that the line will be split in two using different headways, with a possibility of a bypass service. Any splitting of the line with no bypass service defeats the conversions from buses to LRVs, with longer travel time than today and keeps people in the cars, especially if they are using GO Cooksville Station

If the wye is built after the line opens, where will the buses come from to replace the LRT service south of Sq One? Mississauga doesn't have enough buses to replace the LRVs without cutting back on service that was added when the LRT opened. The buses for routes 2 and 17 are to be removed from the corridor to beef up routes that need more service, which was supposed to happen in 2024. Route 103 will disappear with those buses being used on route X to deal with the extra distance between the stations to service stops every 400m, along with a few more depending on the headway, which is unknown at this time.

Update
The northbound curb was being pour north of the Mary Fix Creek area, a few days ago, along with the sides for the guideway from Mary Fix Creek to Englewood. They are making good time for the area.

Had a great laugh watching clueless drivers trying to use the closed northbound lanes at the QEW off ramp. At first, I thought they were doing work there, only to see cars turning around and diving out of the open area at the South Service Rd. There had to be over a dozen cars while I waited for the light to turn green.

Saw no Bell crew or hydro working on poles that still need to be removed.

Looks like all the trackwork for the fire station has been poured, with traps covering them up. The driveway could be poured now or will be early next week. They still haven't fixed the north walkway safety issue at the north-east corner of Mineola.

Britannia shelter was being installed when I drove past it, and this leaves Bristol the last station with poles in place for station platforms. The framing is only for about 50% of the shelter that needs to be installed.

Trackwork is placed in the guideway for King St, along with the missing section where the trackwork started south of King St. The trackwork needs alignment and other work before concrete can be poured for it.

Looks like more trackwork has been dug up to the east of the work that was taking place east of the switches.

Why are they digging up the trackwork?
Out of gauge. The Topflight intersection took over 6 months to rebuild it which only opened a few weeks ago in place of July, with the rest of the road sawcut for removal. The guideway from Topflight to the OMSF was totally rebuilt as well, with a small section still to be rebuilt.

2 of the 5 known intersections from Topflight to the 401 have been rebuilt, with one another underway. All kinds of trackwork has to be rebuilt from Topflight to Eglinton.

Wow!
How did they mess that up?
I hope they are eating those costs.

Looks like it's going to be PNR to the rescue again, to the surprise of nobody. . . At this point they should just have PNR or the other dedicated rail company inspect everything that has been laid down including works in progress and completed works.

This is going to be my last update in the Brampton corridor until next spring unless someone pings me about something they want me to look at.

After flying around yesterday and comparing old and new photos I have on hand, I was spit-balling on why the area around 407/Hurontario hasn't been open as of yet. The most logical thought is that they may want to use the new area for construction vehicle staging and work. I imagine once they have the new ties and rail delivered that they're going to want to just drop them in the new area so they can drag and drop things as required. Traffic configuration is going to be interesting. They may also want to keep the new lanes closed because the work on new lanes going NB isn't finished up yet. I assume that once the new lanes along the Brampton corridor are opened, they may be closer to moving everyone over with lane closures on the passing lanes. It's just too much weaving right now.

Topflight has ties stacked in the work area. Not sure how far they are on work done now, but the intersection is fully open again. Only thing to note is you're not allowed to make left turns on Topflight to go southbound on Hurontario.

Hurontario NB from 407 to Ray Lawson is still being graded and compacted, no surprise there. No work to continue past that until the new lanes are opened. Then they'll just grade everything else, save for the intersections.

Amico is moving SB in the NB lanes. Previously they were working around a manhole with a trench box located at Steeles/Hurontario. Looks like all they're doing is inspecting utilities and then paving over everything when they're completed. Nothing remarkable to call home about. I believe the same thing is happening on the opposite side as they prepare to shift traffic over next year to work within the median on the guideway.

Traction power substation section just south of the courthouse hasn't seen anything happen recently. Again, pretty unremarkable.

That's all for now.

Quick shot from yesterday, south of Pinetree way, north of Mineola. It was a mess on Friday with them pouring the curb during business hours without notice. Some cars were trapped in parking lots before the steel plates were put in place and that really pissed people off.
