yea but they made the announcement before this latest setback. until they disclose why they needed to pause who knows if they can make the opening.

I was shopping at Golden Mile (Eglinton east) on Saturday and saw no trains. Since the test is to make sure trains can run every day, all day long, pausing testing makes no sense unless a serious problem has been found. Sorry, but I have no confidence the line will open this year. Maybe Finch will open.

I've spoken to a few of you on the subject of the recent testing pause and some other matters concerning the Crosstown. My appreciation for all of you kind enough to share your insights and inside info.
I will put out a call here for anyone I've missed in this round who may be attached to or have further insight on this project as well as anyone with a very clear understanding of the rolling stock here. I'm both interested for what I can report here, in due course, but I am also sharing info (not sources unless they explicitly agree) with the media. (I will always keep anything private that is requested to remain such).

Okay I have a question: IF it is possible, can they at least open part of the line while working to fix whatever on the rest of the line? (ie open the underground part, or only running the above ground...something like that)
Or is the line as a whole doomed to have complications and problems?

According to their rules, everything has to be perfect before the line opens. If it were as you suggest, the line would have opened years ago. Of course, once it's open, if something causes part of the line to close, the rest of the line can be kept going, just as it does all the time on the subway system. It has to do with liability, and what's written into the contracts. I believe many of us on here, think these rules are dumb, and need to change for future projects, because it's looking like the current rules make it impossible for a new line to ever open.

There's also a lot of financial penalties in the contract for under performance during revenue service, as well as stimulation for when/how substantial completion can be declared.

Trains seem to be completely stopped on the line. Above ground tracks are empty and the screen say “out of service.”

The Leafs have better shot at Lord Stanley this season than the Crosstown finishing by Christmas.

The line is out of service until they are satisfied that the concern is adequately addressed.

So how many days longer until the RSD is finished? Would that pause be a snag or a faulty?

You'll likely see something in the media soon. I can't say more about it right now. On the RSD, I think that depends on how soon it restarts, and whether there is an insistence on re-starting the clock. I'm not privy to any leanings on that point.
