Took a spin through the complex, grabbed a coffee plus Kibo for lunch and noticed a few changes...
York St Promenade: The security office window is closed -- is the office moved or behind the hoarding...
It moved to the unit directly east (right) of the old office. It has a much nicer look now
The new security office:

One might wonder why a 'security office' would have opaque windows. Surely the security might need to see what's happening outside (or the public might want to see security there as a reassurance)??

Hold onto your hats boys ......

I wrote to my Union Station contact to thank her for the lighting and got this response...

"Yes, the Great Hall chandeliers and cove lighting tender is out for bid. It’s very exciting for us to have this be realized. Staff are also working on the flux project with the Belgium designers, and it is planned to be installed in February 2026.

Finally, the Great Hall tile flooring order is underway, and you can expect to see installation later next year and into early 2027."

So glad to see the lighting and flooring moving ahead but honestly, what really kills the Great Hall is that there’s been construction hoarding along its main entrance side for what, a decade or more now?

If they don’t have an official leasee to open a restaurant yet, then take down the hoarding and let some pop up cafe and/or seating take up the space.

While I agree, I think it’ll be easy to look past the hoarding once the lighting package is installed.

I would love if some plant pots could be placed around the area, something to give this space a little extra life

I'd much prefer a disco ball, lasers and disco lights

and an after-hours that opens after the last train departs each weekend night

Not sure if a joke or serious but that's kind of exactly what the station needs. Once the last train has left, the place is dead with nothing but bums sleeping on benches. It doesn't have to be that way, a piano bar where the hoarding is would keep The Great Hall active later into the night.

Trying to be optimistic here but it's possible that the hoarding is there because there's no flooring. That space used to occupied by ticket booths. So quite possibly, once the flooring is done, it'll have to be done where the hoarding is now and even if there's no tenant, the hoarding can come down or at least recede to the wall.

The western half of the Bremner Concourse is being fitted out already, I really do believe we could see a phased opening with this half done in the next 2/2.5 years:

Perhaps naïvely, I had expected the whole new concourse would be open in a year or so as it does seem to be moving on and most of it is now enclosed again. Do MX have a date? Their website is(maybe alarmingly) silent!

The side of the concourse west of the blue route (scotiabank arena connection) is extremely far along, thats what’s shown in the pictures above

The east side is still a massive hole in the ground, the lower utility level is still being worked on.

No date! I remember the original completion date being 2025 haha. I talked with someone from OnTrack Alliance earlier this year and they said 2029 is the assumed date everything will be open.
