Oh no, that wasn’t my point—I’m certain there will be plenty of complaints in Markham too. But that’s not really the issue. My point is that downtown it should be especially frowned upon—because by living there you’re choosing to be part of the “noise” and the occasional inconveniences that come with it. That’s what creates vibrancy. So if people celebrate the move simply because it means less traffic or noise, that’s the trend I wouldn’t want to support ...

The head of the Unionville Residents' Association has already been invited onto CBC news to do just that.


"The city and the people organizing the event should have held a community meeting to let them know this is what's going to be happening, and shared the possibilities of how it'll effect the residents [and] the measures of how they're going to counter those concerns."

Of course, a meeting where the city shares information is not what they actually want, because they could still have that in the year to go before the race next year. They wanted a meeting where they could have intervened to kill the plan.

Fair point, John Tory was 68, and she was 31 at the time the affair was made public in 2023. But she was in her 20s when Tory first made his move, FWIW. When a 65-year old senior executive or politician sexually pursues the 20-somethings in the staff room, that’s rarely a first time occurrence. I would not trust him to be mayor again, and imagine the legal liabilities for the city if a known philanderer goes for a repeat and the young target sues rather than settling for a new job in Tory’s business/entertainment circles. For the record, I’m voting for Chow. She’s doing a good job.

I'm very much of the belief that the only reason the route goes where it does is because it passes by Markam Honda. Zero thought seems to have been given to anyone but the race organizers.

Having heard first hand of dealings with the Markham government, I'm not surprised they wouldn't even have thought to consult locals beforehand.
