Toronto Bike Share

A report to next week's meeting of the Toronto Parking Authority (Bikeshare's parent) seeks to approve lowering the minimum unconditional age of use for riders to 16, and the conditional age (with parental consent/supervision)
to age 14.

Fun, last night my bike got eaten by a docking station. Went green but app didn't update. Also, people couldn't unlock bikes from the dock.

Not sure what was the problem with the connection. Does it have anything to do with the solar panel and being night time? Would be nice if the app could tell you that the docking station is disconnected from the network.

Spent 9 mins on hold with customer service. Felt like a long time but maybe not that bad.
 
I am noticing that the app is also not always accurate. It would say that a station has no bikes, then I would walk up to the station and there are a few bikes present. Perhaps someone parked one between the time I checked and walked over, but it has happened enough times now recently that I thought I would comment to see if others have similar experience.
 
I haven't personally, but my wife uses bixi for commuting a couple of times a week and she has had inaccurate information on a number of occasions.

Were you able to unlock the bikes? The bikes could be out of order unable to be unlocked, flagged for maintenance.

Yes! Particularly e-bikes.

I thought they would be out of order or lacking battery, but I would be able to pull it out. I use the physical card to pull them out, haven't tested using the QR code in these cases.

The stations seem to update the API on an interval of about every 2-3 minutes, not real time. I've had several occasions where I go to get a bike at a station with 3 available and as I turn the corner two people take out bikes but the app shows an outdated number. Not sure why they don't have stations relaying counts every 30 seconds or less.. maybe to reduce server costs.

I find it doesn't refresh. Sometimes I close the app and reopen it.

Saw this on Instagram today. I wonder how exactly they will enforce the bicycles staying on the island. Perhaps some penalty if a bicycle is undocked from the island but docked outside of it.

"Staff will be stationed at the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal and at each Bike Share dock on the island to ensure customers leave their bikes on the correct side of the harbour.

The docking system operates the same for all bike shares, however, so it’s possible island bikes may end up on the mainland, and vice versa. Users who bring bikes across the water may be charged a relocation fee.

TPA also confirmed that crews will redistribute bikes to various docks around the island based on demand and at and the end of each day. "

Still works fine for me.

If you click the map, it will prompt for your postal code.

You can just close that.

Then you should be able to click anywhere on the map and get a pop up field that allows you to explain why.

You must select the destination type or it won't let you submit.

Must be your device/browser. I just submitted one no problem. Added to the many voices wanting one at Danforth GO.

P.S If anyone wants to throw more support for a station at Gower Street and Dawes Road I would appreciate it 😂. I was happy to see I was not the only one making that suggestion.
