Located across from Yorkdale Shopping Centre and the eponymous subway station on University Line 1, the three towers dubbed Sloane have topped off at the southwest corner of Dufferin Street and Highway 401 in North York. Designed by Arcadis for Fitzrovia Real Estate Inc., AIMCo, and Hazelview Investments, the 24, 28, and 30-storey towers formerly branded as The Sloane & The Trafford are wrapped in two colours of hand-laid brick, creating a striking addition the skyline of Toronto’s Yorkdale area.
UrbanToronto provided an update in February, 2022, during the excavation stage, and offered a brief look at their brickwork and vertical progress in a UTPro Instant Report from November, 2023.
Looking southeast in October, 2022, the towers had progressed just past grade level. The 24-storey building stands in the background, while the tallest occupies the centre, both denoted by their cranes. The ground floors are formed, and formwork for the second floors is underway. The 28-storey tower, located in the foreground near the blue crane, has concrete walls and rebar in place.
By August, 2023, the 24-storey tower displayed dark brick laid around the first seven storeys above the podium, contrasting the lighter concrete cladding below. The yellow scaffolding system used for the hand-laid brickwork is moving upward along the tower, behind which crews continue to lay bricks and install window wall sections.
Looking up in October, 2023, we see the 30-storey tower at the centre and the 24-storey building on the right, both having topped off earlier that summer. The bricklaying on the 24-storey structure has now surpassed the halfway mark. White weatherproofing materials are installed in preparation for the next phases of facade installation across all three high-rises.
At the start of this year, the entire development is topped off in this view from the Yorkdale parking lot. Red bricks grace the taller towers to the right presents while a charcoal tone was chosen for the shorter building. The latter’s brick cladding is nearly completed, while the tallest 30-storey structure in the centre shows cladding reaching halfway up its facade, and the 28-storey tower on the right has advanced slightly beyond the halfway point. A construction hoist remains attached to the north elevation of the central high-rise.
This month, we look northwest to the facades of the shortest (left) and tallest (right) towers. The former showcases its darker grey brick, with a series of terraces on the upper floors along the east elevation, leading to the mechanical penthouse. The 30-storey tower's mechanical penthouse is prominent from the south.
The Sloane's towers stand at heights ranging from 85.1m to 103.4m, and will collectively add 759 residential units to the Yorkdale area.
UrbanToronto will continue to follow progress on this development, but in the meantime, you can learn more about it from our Database file, linked below. If you'd like, you can join in on the conversation in the associated Project Forum thread or leave a comment in the space provided on this page.
