Earlier this week, RioCan Living broke ground for Verge Condominiums on the southwest corner of Islington Avenue and The Queensway in Etobicoke. Designed by Turner Fleischer Architects, the two Verge phases will rise to 10 and 17 storeys tall.

Prior to the groundbreaking, three single-level restaurants and a bank sat on the property facing The Queensway, while extensive surface parking makes up the bulk of the lot, and a flagship Cineplex location lines the south end of the lot facing the Gardiner Expressway. The restaurants and bank have been fully removed to make way for the two mixed-use Verge buildings, which will feature prominent retail at grade. A brand new public park will be built between them.

RioCan launched the 10-storey building on the west side of the site last summer, and quickly followed it with the release of the 17-storey on the east side. To date, all released inventory has sold out, with some remaining residences set to hit the market in 2023.

Amenities in Phase 1 of the project will include home offices, meeting rooms, soundproof phone booths and a fully equipped, video-ready content studio with pull-down backdrops and green screens, as well as an audio recording studio for podcasts and other presentations.

Phase 2 amenities will include two Interactive Fitness Studios that allow for remote fitness training, alongside a traditional Fitness Centre for those who prefer conventional exercise routines. The expanded footprint of the East Tower also allows for more social and co-working spaces, including sun beds, lounge seating, fireplaces, and barbecues on the 9th floor terrace alongside fully connected workstations.

A putting green and green roof will be located on the 11th floor while the ground floor of both buildings will feature residential lobbies with lounge seating, a fireplace, and indoor co-working spaces such as meeting rooms, booths, and communal tables.

Shoring began recently onsite, with two rigs at work on the property.
