This week's Throwback Thursday takes us back six years for a view north along Yonge Street just south of the staggered corner at Hillsdale Avenue in Midtown Toronto. Back in November, 2014, the Art Shoppe furniture store stood awaiting redevelopment into a high-rise, mixed-use condo following the property's sale to developer Freed in 2011. The 2014 view below is from a time when Minto Midtown was still the tallest building in frame, and the wider Yonge-Eglinton area.

Almost six years have passed since the photo above was captured, and the twin condo towers at Minto Midtown have since become the catalyst that ignited the recent wave of high-rise development in the area. In the foreground, the Art Shoppe name lives on through Art Shoppe Condos. To the north, Minto Midtown is no longer the king of the local skyline, having been overtaken by 2221 Yonge Condos (its crane is still up) and E Condos beyond. Even more height is planned for the Yonge-Eglinton intersection, with an active proposal for the southeast corner at 1 Eglinton East, and an envisioned redevelopment of the Canada Square complex and former bus terminal at the southwest corner.

We will return next week with another look at the changing face of Toronto. In the meantime, you can submit your own Throwback Thursday comparisons in our dedicated Forum thread for your chance to be featured in next week's edition.
