The growth of the Midtown Toronto skyline continues as new buildings rise into the increasingly dense node of development surrounding Eglinton subway station. Among the many towers rising in the area, the next one set to break into the local skyline is Whitehaus Condominiums, a Diamond Schmitt Architects and Turner Fleischer Architects-designed condominium tower from Lifetime Developments and Knightstone, under construction at Yonge and Helendale, a couple blocks north of Eglinton.

Already well into construction, a minor variance application was recently approved for the building, granting a 2-storey height increase that will result in the building reaching a 31-storey, 107.2-metre height above Yonge Street. We last checked in on the project a month ago, when work was heating up for the building's ten-storey podium. It's been a busy month of work since, during which time the podium has grown from five storeys up to nine storeys, leaving just one more level to form before the structure steps back to the west for the tower floors.

The very first panels of white light-sanded precast concrete were recently installed along the building’s Helendale Avenue frontage. Additional podium finishes will include glazing as well as copper-coloured touches including aluminum panels and perforated metal screens. Above, the tower will be finished in a window wall system with glazing and white aluminum panels, living up to the project’s branding.

The project's recent height increase comes with a corresponding increase in the unit count, rising from 378 in the previous plan up to the since-approved 404 units. The added units and the conversion of part of the underground garage's residential parking into a commercial pay lot have been secured in exchange for a $440,000 contribution by the developers for local public realm improvements, plus "real-time transit service display boards" that will be installed in the condominium lobby and primary retail entrance.
