Western Canada's tallest structure being built in Calgary

247 meters. It would be the third tallest building under construction in Toronto, which isn't bad at all for a city 1/6th our size.
 
This building is going to be 810ft when finished (Calgary's tallest). It will be Calgary's 4th building over 200m when completed. There are currently 2 other proposals in Calgary that are also over 200m which could be approved this year as well, taking their total to 6 by 2017-2018.
 
Pretty sure Calgary is building more office space then anyone in North America ... and I'm not even talking about per capita ... very very impressive ...
 
Toronto is still ahead of Calgary in terms of new office space being built, but yes for it's size Calgary is exploding.
 
Really I don't think we are ahead ?? It depends what you are counting, still hard to believe.
 
Manulife will make an announcement this week that they plan to build a 27 storey tower in downtown Calgary, rising about 430-450ft (near 135m) , adding to the already impressive list of commercial projects in the city. The lead tenant will be Brion Energy. In total the building will add over 500,000 sq ft of office space to Calgary. Add this on top of Herald Sq (2,400,000 sq ft of office space), Telus Sky (430,000 sq ft of office space), and several other key projects (over 1,000,000 sq ft) and you have over 4,500,000 square feet of new space coming to the city over the next 5 years.

That is indeed more then Toronto (fairly sure), and again, probably the most in North America ! Maybe New York has more ... but not fair ... not really going to count the world trade tower development as that's replacement to a certain degree.
 
Only the taller tower of herald square currently has the go ahead, so not a total 2.4 million. I think it Is 1.4 in the taller one which is going ahead.
 
^ Yes, the first tower is expected to be complete by late 2017, with the second tower probably finishing up by 2019 providing it gets approved (no reason to assume it won't).
 
I'm sure this is an interesting project and that there are some interesting commercial projects in general being built in Calgary but what does this have to do with Toronto again?
 
What no one has mentioned is that this is a Brookfield development and a cut and paste design of Bay-Adelaide Centre - right down to the two tower concept - except for the height. The second tower appears to be maybe 30 storeys? With Bay-Adelaide's two towers at 50 and 44 storeys, Bay-Adelaide beats this project by a few storesy and likely more total square footage.
 
Twin towers of varying height is a staple in Calgary's skyline. There are similarities between the two project designs however there are vast differences as well.
