Toronto Albion District Library | ?m | 1s | TPL | Perkins + Will

Wow, if the Albion design is indeed a coincidence it certainly is a striking one. The two renderings in the article look like two iterations of the same plan. Regardless, it's a beautiful building and it really does a lot to liven up this ugly stretch of road. Perhaps with the coming of the LRT the Albion Mall's owners will sell off some of their excess parking along Albion and Finch as development parcels.

It's among the more striking examples of contemporary library architecture in the city. The Toronto Public Library should be commended for setting such a high bar for design in a neighbourhood not typically associated with great architecture and design. It seems to be the norm that if an area is outside downtown or an affluent part of the city, the architecture will be second or third rate. Fortunately, TPL broke this convention and made great architecture more accessible to the people of this city.
