Toronto 1 and the Municipal Election

ELECTION!! Pt. II

So anyone have predictions on the upcoming municipal election?

Did anyone else flip over to Toronto 1 to see what their election coverage was like? It was pitiful! As soon as CityTV declared Miller the victor, they quickly wrapped up their coverage, and went back to Monday night football.

I was willing to give the station some leeway in its initial months, to give them some time to develop their Toronto programs, but their poor coverage of the election has convinced me that they have no commitment to the city of Toronto other than that which will allow them to make a sufficient profit to justify their presence in business terms. How very disappointing!

Kudos to CityTV for being a locally-conscious television station. The emergence of Toronto 1 makes me realize how lucky we are to have CityTV.

Because of the computerized vote count there will be no suspense and the election night coverage will be over by 9.

I wonder if T1 will have electronica and go-go girls as part of it's coverage?

No doubt -- and listen for it when you watch T1 - a heck of a sound track during the news.

My prediction:
Miller 47%
Tory 40%
Hall 10%
Nunziata 2%
The rest 1%

A-Channel (oops, Toronto 1) will only have election coverage until 9:00, then will switch right into Monday Night Football, its only highly rated program. Updates will be at the bottom of the screen.

At 9, many of the races will not have yet been decided, as the polls have been closed for only an hour. Forget about watching the victory and concession speeches.

This decision alone pretty much sums up what we've been saying about T1.

Thank god for CP24, i'll be watching it over the net.

As much as I hate City (re: Adam Vaughn) they by far had the best coverage tonight. CFTO who I went to first wasn't good - especially with the way they displayed results. City was good with the mayor #'s at the bottom and the various wards at the side rotating.

I forget to check Rogers until it was too late - ditto with Toronto 1.

Toronto 1 was horrible. It was known weeks ago that at 9PM they would break in for the NFL. I'm thinking of a letter righting campaign to the CRTC. Anyone in?

City TV went until midnight with no commercials until it was obvious it was Miller. They also had a crew at the Bambu WITH A CAR waiting to see if Miller would come to the studio to discuss issues with past Mayors and other significant people who believe in the city. Miller left his party to attend. Kudos to Miller and CityTV. Great job. And can Toronto 1 leave now?

I don't think Toronto1 was that bad but clearly Citytv was superior... hey, these guys are pros. I flipped back and forth a few times and City's number were always more up-to-date than Toronto1's. Wrt Adam Vaughan, I'm not a big fan myself but he does seem to have a keen understanding of local politics... I'll give him that.

"City TV went until midnight with no commercials until it was obvious it was Miller."

What do you mean by that, Ed? Miller was declared mayor at 8:14.

Did Miller end up going to the Citytv studio? I don't remember seeing that. He did drop in to Breakfast Television for a coffee this morning.

T1 is a joke thus far - so much for the much hooted channel for Toronto. Ben Chin et al should start polishing their resumes...

Let me clarify. They had no commercials for a good two hours. Yes, they called Miller at 8:14 but they kept coverage of all the other races, including coverage from each ward, from each candidate's locations and continued to go back to their panel of experts on a regular basis to discuss what the results meant for the city. They put some serious work on this as they continued their coverage until midnight. And Miller did show up at about 11:45PM.

The other guys showed American football from 9PM on.
