Time for a GENERAL STRIKE!!

It doesn't matter what party you align yourself with, we all know that the GTA will get the short end from every party. The Province does not want to give us back part of our taxes and neither does the Feds. We're in a perpetual cycle that needs to be broken in order for anything to progress. The entire country likes to downplay the importance of Toronto as an economic engine for Canada so maybe we should give everyone a taste of what a non-Toronto, non-Bay Street would mean to them.

We're always being taken for granted because we don't complain or at least we don't do anything with some teeth. We have to remind every suburb and every other Province about where some of their extra dollars come from.

We are not a poor city. We're like middle class people giving all of our money to everyone else and then we have to pan handle for some of it back.

We need a General Strike and we need it now!!! Then you'll see how fast we'll get 1% of the GST (or more) and Provincial uploading will start as of yesterday.

Let's do something not just talk!! Any ideas on how to do this or how fast we can do this?

Who would you be striking against?

Looks like I left out the fact that I am starting to pass the word around and contacting some key people who can help make this happen. In the mean time go ahead quibble about semantics just like your councillors.

General Strike NOW!!!

key people?

are you talking about the illuminati?

I'll bet that you either working for the government or for the financial industry which only includes about 10% of the Toronto working population. Neither of the two seem to be willing to make any change that will help the other 90% of working Torontonians. It doesn't matter to the CIBC, BMO, RBC, Scotia or TD whether or not Toronto is a progressive and prosperous city. Financial institutions will get their bank surcharges and yearly run for the RRSPs no matter what.... they just dont care. However if anyone of them sides with the people of Toronto and pushes for uploading and the 1% of the GST I'll move my business to that bank.

So yes the illuminati... if that's what you call 90% of Toronto.

Personally speaking, I work with the aliens who, of course, will never let a general strike occur.

out of curiosity, why didn't you include BMO?

A general strike? Like the labour "Days of Action" during the first Harris term?

Or are you talking an all-out Winnipeg style general strike? I'd be careful - Stephen Harper is the closest PM to that asshole Arthur Meighen (look him up), who helped crush the socialist/labour agitators back in 1919.

Well a general strike would probably go for longer than a few days... clog all access to the financial district and Bay St as well as major highways so there is a hell of a lot extra that we would have to do.

Harper has a minority government so it won't be that easy to crush anything besides his chance of geting re-elected. His best chance would be giving cities the 1cent or more of the GST. We know they buy votes... might as well force them to pay for it. Dalton is in the same boat so we might as well do this while we have the chance.

There seems to be a lot of sarcastic remarks, but I think this is an idea with merit. It could backfire of course, but I think some stronger measures are needed; the city can't just sit back and take things anymore. Some aggressive action might be just what the doctor ordered.
