Six Degrees of Ken Thomson

He's dead, but I bought a suit at The Bay a couple of years ago that was made for him that he didn't pick up.

Anyone else have a connection to the dude?

That's quite a surprise. It's unfortunate that he won't live to see the completion of the AGO renovation and his works at the new home.

Wonder if the newly bought Lawren Harris painting is going to be donated to the AGO as well?

And of course, there is the matter of Thomson Jr.'s collection of Picassos, Rothkos...

The Star still doesn't have the story on their main page.

Ken Thomson bought his suits at the Bay?

Are you sure this isn't like George buying Jon Voight's LeBaron on Seinfeld?

I took the suit jacket in a couple of weeks ago to be altered. I've exercised off a few pounds since I bought it so the waist was taken in and the shoulders narrowed. Also, the trousers were a tad too long so I had them shortened. The Bay salesmen were delighted to see it again, and told me stories about how cheap Thomson was. The made-to-measure suit had been marked down, and down, and down when I bought it a couple of years ago for less than $300. I have no idea why he didn't collect it.

My fear was that something might happen to me when I was wearing it. Like the Royal Family, I rarely carry I.D. His nametags in the jacket and trousers were the only way I could have been identified.

I will miss the demise of many of our benevolent billionaire barrons.

how much does it cost to have a suit jacket taken in?
i've dropped 30 pounds over the last 2 years and now look like i'm wearing a borrowed suit on the rare occasion when i put one of mine on.

Ah, now David's soon to be ex-wife will be able to call herself Lady Thompson until the divorce judgment is final. I'm sure Frank will like that.

indense: Shortening the trousers with cuffs, and narrowing the body/waist of the jacket, was about $30. Narrowing the shoulders, which is a "major reno" in the suit world, was $85. I had to have it in time for the ROM do last week, which was "business dress".

If there is a public memorial service I know what I shall wear.

... and I'll take Marilyn some of my home made jam. Maybe she'll start dating again.

Oh, dear BB. The Globe (in a shockingly timely, given their usual delay of weeks and or months in running obits) describes the late baron's suits as serviceable, rather than elegant. Your tailor has changed that, surely.

Lord Thomson died of a heart attack this morning at his office.
