We need a big party. We don’t need any more food kitchens or shelters: we need a party. I think we need to invent some sort of a day. A non-denominational sort of day.

If I was mayor, I would just go, “February 18th is now Drag Day.†And that day, you dress and behave the way you think the opposite sex is.

Wow, I love it. I'd vote for him. And he's right. It's amazing how so much of the puritanism in this city comes not from the right but from the left.

Houston, Texas has an openly gay mayor and so did Lexington, Kentucky, but I think that it would be a major hurdle to see a gay mayor in Toronto. I think Smitherman's homosexuality played at least some small part in his defeat in the more working class, new immigrant enclaves of this city.

Maybe to a very small part, but it's not what led to Smitherman's defeat. Remember, Ford won by almost 100000 votes, a whopping 1/3rd more than Smitherman.
