Oh man it was beautiful I tell you!
Sun shining from a Corporate Blue sky, autumn trees so ABLAZE that they had to be supervised by the Studmuffins of the Mississauga Fire Department...
People were shuttled between GO-station parking lot and Riverwood by a Mississauga transit bus that worked in flawless there-and-back efficiency.
Members of the Mississauga Indians opened the ceremony with drums and chants.
There were several speeches and I even listened to some of them --the best part being how Mississauga was leaving much of the park to nature --obnoxious weeds, scratchy inpenetrable brambles and all.
Then they unveiled a plaque.
Then people were invited to create a painting --a "time capsule" painting of sorts --that would be stashed away and revealed again in 30 years!
Mayor McCallion took her turn painting something that looked like a blue city hall without the tower.
Then buckets of paint were splattered all over her design and over much of me too.
Then when people weren't looking, I grabbed a brush (and what was left of the paint in the red bucket) and wrote...
Then I made a swift get-away in my City of Mississauga transit bus and called it a day.
Might as well take the time to say KUDOS to any and all involved in this Crown-Jewel-Park at the geographic centre of Mississauga.
The thing I love best about it is there is just so much unfettered nature there --and that it will be preserved for the future in this safe haven. You know, "placemaking" that leaves a place a PLACE?
Oh. And that "time-capsule" painting that will be shown to the public 30 years from now?
I'm prepared to bet that Hazel McCallion will be there to unveil the thing in October 2036.
Signed,
