Repairs at Opera Place

Passed by at lunch, and realized that what I had thought were window cleaners were actually masons replacing the brick under the windows of the upper floors of the west facing side. Looking more closely you could see that the brick had deteriorated under all the windows. For a building completed eight years ago, I find this depressing.

Speaking of Opera Place, does anyone know what's happening on the rest of the lot? I wish they'd at least convert it to parkland for the short term if it's going to be awhile before anything happens

was about to ask the same thing

judging by window coverings, the Bay Club seems to be close to fully occupied

the condo on the NE corner of College & Bay is just as depressing considering how stained the white pre-cast has become and how much has being used elsewhere in the city

I noticed this morning that the precast on the French Quarter has started to crack and spill rust. What is that thing going to look like in a few years? It was ugly and stupid looking on the day it was finished. Too bad it is on such a prominent site.

Right across from the Opera Place on the north side of Wellesley there is a not terrifically old condo with spandrels that have rusted right through. Sad.

According to the original plans there are a few more phases remaining, with the end result including more condos/apartments along Wellesley and a park thrown in somewhere (I never found an actual map). I'm not sure if things have changed, since the original plan was for all buildings to be condos.

As for building quality, I saw the city mandate a return to quality building materials. Enough of this pre-cast garbage, I want brick and stone!

Brick often has more aging issues than concrete. It looks nicer I will give you that but it falls apart more often than reinforced concrete.

It's not that bad...how old is the building?

"I want brick and stone! "

depends on the stone - for most, I'd take pre-cast

I actually think the Royalton doesn't look that bad, in fact, perhaps a bit better than when it was new. I remember when it was first built and it was too, too white and I thought, well, time will take care of that.

All buildings get dirty. It works for most of them.

well. don't care for the dirt on this one or any of the cityplace towers

however French Quarter is looking better (in which I dislike the retail/main floor and the corrugated metal roof with the assemetrical window arrangement but don't mind the faux, pre-cast body of the tower)
