As you can see it we do have a history but we don't have skyscrapers. Therefore scrapers are my childhood's love, and I taught we have tall building when the first 18 stories in Pula has been erected...heheheeheheh...
Do not mention any more so called Bishop's
block please...

I have family friends there and last visted in the summers of 2002 and 2003. Beautiful city, many fantastic beaches, and the citadel on the mountain is more than worth the inexpensive admission.

You may be interested in my own Pula pics :)

I like your photo album, and yes I could have done it better.
De Ville's mighty citadel deserves more care like the whole this ancient city anyway, but this maybe isn't the right place for it being Toronto Forum (SIC !!!)

i visited pula in 1997 and enjoyed not just the arena tour but the whole place!

Great photo thread...very comprehensive! I visited last summer for just over a week and I had a love hate relationship with the city. The city has some gorgeous buildings, but its so run down, that its hard to enjoy them. The other problem I found in Pula was security. I was with locals so I felt safe, but the streets seem anything but safe. I believe that there is a massive roma (gypsy) population and they live in terrible conditions. Having traveled to about 6 major cities in Croatia, it seems like Pula has been forgotten and this is a shame.

Sorry you felt that way there, but I didn't find that to be the case at all. I was told there are parts one shouldn't wander into in the middle of the night, but that's no different from any other city.

And while I don't know about their living conditions, the Roma population in Pula (and Croatia in general) is anything but massive. Completely different than, say, Hungary.

Well, its hard to compare a country like croatia (population of 4.5 million) to hungary (10.1 million). There are not many statistics but a large percentage of the population in the northern cities of Istra but particularly Zagreb have a large and marginalized roma minority. Their numbers are only smaller than in other eastern european countires because croatia has such a small population. Regardless...Pula is an interesting city...that is for sure!
