I was just checking out what improvements are scheduled for the Fort York Area and I came across this. It looks like the main entrance to the Ex will be seeing some improvements. This could be the first step in making Lakeshore Blvd a grand type avenue (We can hope, can't we?)

The shortlist was to be announced yesterday. I wonder who the 5 finalists are?

Nice to hear about this. This area totally needs a review. I personally think that the traffic in that area needs a completely new bottleneck introduced, like a turn or even better a traffic circle (as discussed here recently) to make the area more inviting and safe for anything other than vehicles. The high wire fence around the Automotive building should go to, we need to re-introduce Exhibition Park to the lake's edge.

This promises to be a very important project for the west end. Could be very impressive, I hope it turns out good. Anybody know where the actual Fort York is in relation to this? Seems to me the revitalization of these two historic sites should go hand in hand, creating a real focus for development and urban planning in the neighbourhood. To add to a wish list here, an eventual subway line that would link the west end of the lakeshore to downtown via Front Street and along to the east end and the distillary district, perhaps up to Cabbage Town and looping back west along another major downtown artery. This would help tourism and accessibility to many major places of interest in the city.
