Station Square, across the Monongahela River from downtown Pittsburgh, is the city's most famous urban shopping and entertainment complex (in other words, a tourist trap). The indoor shopping component of the complex is similar to our Queen's Quay Terminal. The outdoor component of it is more like Dundas Square. Station Square's main outdoor space is Bessemer Square, which not only has a Hard Rock Cafe like Dundas Square, but also a water feature... in this case, a musical fountain built in front of a disused steel furnace. It is conveniently located near the Monongahela Incline to Mount Washington.
Unfortunately the Station Square complex suffers from a problem that we in Toronto are quite familar with... the complex is cut off from the water by a working freight rail line. There is an elevated walkway that crosses the rail line to a marina on the river.
A few photos of East Carson Street in the Southside Flats neighbourhood. Pittsburgh's version of Queen Street, its restaurants and clubs are busy with college students and yuppies at night.
